crochet help?

Hello ladies!  Can you help a girl out with some crochet confusion?  I am trying to teach myself to crochet with books and web tutorials and videos but I think I need some actual input.  So far I haven't made it past the chain stitch.

I'm having trouble with the chain turning on me I think.  I can start out ok with the little V's that it's supposed to have on one side and the bumps on the other side and it looks OK but I seem to be having trouble keeping the V's in the front.  I can see where the chain is turning but can't figure out what I'm doing to cause that.  Likely hard to tell without seeing it and my camera is MIA but if you have some advice I'd appreciate it.  How do you keep yours from turning and ending up looking more spiraled than a flat line of V's like it's supposed to be?

Thank you for your input!

Re: crochet help?

  • I think you may not be holding your yarn properly..............or wrapping the yarn around the hook the wrong direction. But honestly its hard to say without seeing exactly what your talking about. You might want to grab a book on crocheting as well as watching the videos. Also a local yarn shop might have someone willing to take a look. :)

  • So is the chain twisting?  My chain twists occasionally, I just make sure to untwist as I crochet the first row.

I would second pps suggestion to ask someone at your local yarn store, they are typically very willing to help.
