Anyone done this before?

So I know I am not a frequent poster, but I have a question hopefully all you crafty people can help me with....

My husband has this hunting bow, a bright blue (competition style bow). He doesn't hunt an awful lot (especially during bow season) but if he ever wants to go out, that bright blue bow is an eyesore in the woods. Last year, He and I picked out some camo patterned fabric and I am hoping to make a cover of sorts for it that secures with velcro so it can be put on and taken off easily.

Here's the rub. There are all sorts of sights and things poking out all over the part that needs covered. I believe that I am going to have to make this in about three parts, and I am not sure how to go about actually DOING this project. I'm not that great at using patterns, let alone drafting my own... but I need some direction! ANY tips you may have would be greatly appreciated. TIA!

that bright blue could keep him alive similar to a hunter orange. I say leave it as is if he doesn't hunt often, especially during bow season.

  • I would go to Cabelas and have him ask about having it professionally painted. Because of all the sights plus the nature of the bow in general a cover won't be a good idea. IMO

I agree with this. A cover sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.

  • Well, the whole reason he bought it was due to the color. Painting would be out of the question. He has taken it out on occasion, but was looking for a way to cover it if need be. He usually hunts only on private property anyway, and wears a full orange suit during bow anyway.

Thanks for the opinions though, I know a newbie always seems like someone appearing out of the blue. :)

  • I'd just hunt with a bright blue bow. Or buy a different hunting bow.  The animals aren't deterred by the man-sized blob of orange, so I doubt they'll run away upon seeing a tiny spot of blue.

  • Well, the problem is, Blue is one of the colors they "think" deer can see.  And I know Turkey's can.  So I get why he would want to cover the blue.

I dunno, I couldn't imagine makeing a cover for my bow.  I mean i'm sure it can be done.  Plus the fabric would probably screw up my shooting truthfully.  There is a reason they are designed the way they are.   Sorry, not helpful, but I just have no idea.  I've never seen anything like it.
