Next up on my never ending list of decorating is T's playroom.
Right now, it's really ugly. 3 walls are cream, the other is goldish/brown (aka gross.) The carpet is navy blue.
There are toys strewn about the floor. No furniture in the room except a train table with missing pieces. A huge closet holds unopened toys, halloween costumes I snagged for 90% off that I envision him using for dress up someday, wrapping paper, etc.
My ideas: Hang a world map (either wall mural or large poster) and USA map. I want to be able to "mark" the map somehow with the places that T travels to.
I want a corner dedicated to a stage/dress up area.
I want an easel and art area.
I want a child sized table with a few chairs.
Need storage bins/cases.
I need to:
Choose a paint color - green?
Find furniture
Figure out how to put it all together. I want it to look good, but also be very functional and a place for him to be creative and have fun.
I've been scouring the internet for ideas. All the cute/cool playrooms are huge. I'm working with an 11 ft x 12 ft space.
Tigers - got any pinterest ideas to share? ![]()
Here is what I like:

Obviously not for T, but I love the feeling of it. Whimsical, fun, playful.

Love the travel/world theme of this room. A lot. Hate the wall color.

Love the idea of a ladder/reading nook.
Any suggestions on how to put this all together and make it look nice and be functional as well?
Re: Decoration ideas - WOP, Tigers, others!
I have no advice, but I LOVE your ideas! T is going to have the coolest playroom around! So awesome.
Sidenote: when I was growing up, my dad hung maps in our basement/family room/playroom. I still remember him pointing out different things to me on the maps ("This is Tampa, Florida where Grandma lives." "This is the Soviet Union, which is now Russia and a bunch of other countries." "This is Kuwait and Iraq, which is where the Gulf War is now taking place.") I was young, but it was memerable. Great idea for you to hang maps for T.
We have a wall painted with chalkboard paint by our backdoor and my nieces love it. I haven't introduced the concept of drawing on walls to Henry yet, though. Haha. He'll grow into it.
For a reading nook, how about 2 open book shelves/cubby shelving unit placed perpendicular to the walls that form a corner in the room. If they are spaced equals distance on the walls, they would create a room within a room. With some pillows and blankets in that created space, it would be a very cozy place to curl up with some books.
I hope I explained that well.
LOVE the ideas.
We did a half a short wall painted with chalkboard paint on a magnetic surface so you can use the chalkboard AND magnets (our refrigerator doesn't take magnets). Also, I really do like having a LARGE bulletin board to display all of their artwork and miscellaneous pictures. I would love to do something framed and fancier, but the stuff comes in every week and I can't keep up! If you don't remember what I have, I'll let you know when I post pix of Maria's room on D&R where we did the chalk board/bulletin board.
I am going to be selling this table if you are interested. The chairs that I have are the green and the purple. I just need to decide if I want to keep some for props. I might even suggest just using stools instead of chairs. What made me think of it is that I LOVE that line of furniture and I wish I would have matched the colors of Maria's room to the table and chairs. So, I'd suggest making sure that the paint color you choose will match any must-have pieces.
LOVE the map theme as well. I think I have some stuff saved on pinterest with maps.
With the dressup area and the art area, this might just be my kids but I'll give you a heads up. I feel like the dress up goes in short spurts and the art rarely happens. They do a lot of it at school so they usually don't request to do anything at home. So, just beware of being frustrated if he doesn't utilize those areas or make them flexible so that you haven't built any major fixtures, etc.
OK, I'll let you know if I think of anything else. Still at a stalemate with Maria's room. Hoping D&R can help.
I'd love to do this for the kids in the next house:
From new blog I've been following. Always wondered about "modge podge".
I love modge podge.
And I love that map. Cute.
