Home poll

Do you have white or stained wood work?

When you bought your house, were the walls all one color or were some painted?

If they were all one color, did you paint any walls? If so, what color?

Where do you get a lot of your home decor?

Where did you get your curtains?

One thing you love about your house and one thing you can't stand?

Re: Home poll

  • Do you have white or stained wood work? White

When you bought your house, were the walls all one color or were some painted? All were one color. Most are still that color (a neutral beige). Very, very slowly changing that.

If they were all one color, did you paint any walls? If so, what color? Our kitchen is a very pale, gorgeous blue right now. Next on the list is our master bedroom, which I'm thinking some kind of green right now. And then we'll go from there.

Where do you get a lot of your home decor? Here and there. My favorite store is in Dallas though--called Samplehouse. There are maybe 5 stores in the Dallas area, and they have the most amazing stuff. Most of my stuff has been from there.

Where did you get your curtains? LOL, what curtains? We only have faux wood blinds right now. Window treatments are pretty low on my list of must-haves for the house right now, with the exception of our master bath--in there we'll be getting a Roman shade at some point.

One thing you love about your house and one thing you can't stand? I love my mantle/bookshelves. I wish our guest bath had actual tile in it instead of a giant plexiglass tub. But I can live with it. :)

  • Do you have white or stained wood work? It's a mixture. 2 bedrooms and the bathroom have white trim. Stained trim everywhere else. Our kitchen cabinets are painted white. I want to eventually paint all the trim white.

When you bought your house, were the walls all one color or were some painted? They were all white.

If they were all one color, did you paint any walls? If so, what color? We painted the kitchen/dining room a soft celery green color that I absolutely love. The living room and hall are a brownish/sage color that's really hard to explain, it's called Mississippi Mud. I painted the guest bedroom a purple color, but it looks too Hannah Montana-ish, so it will be repainted, I just don't know what color yet. The other bedrooms/bathroom aren't painted yet.

Where do you get a lot of your home decor? Hobby Lobby, Kirklands, TJ Max.

Where did you get your curtains? We only have curtains in the living room and some in front of the sliding glass back door. I think we got them from Khols? Or maybe just walmart. I can't remember.

One thing you love about your house and one thing you can't stand? I love our kitchen. It's nothing fancy, but I love the green walls and the white cabinets. I hate the ugly carpet in the bedrooms. We really want to replace it, but haven't for some reason. I also hate the window in the shower. It has that frosted stuff sprayed on it so you can't see in, but it just freaks me out.

Do you have white or stained wood work?  We changed all the woodwork from 1970s stain to white. Everything. Interior doors, base, crown, casing, exterior doors - all white.

When you bought your house, were the walls all one color or were some painted?  Gosh, I can't even remember.  I think they were the same neutral color.

If they were all one color, did you paint any walls? If so, what color?  Ha. We have painted everything.  Our dining room was originally red (seller's color) - it went to prime, to ballerina pink, to neutral.  One of the bathrooms went from bright red to neutral.  Our bathroom went from green to yellow to...neutral.  Our bedroom was also green and it is now neutral.

Where do you get a lot of your home decor? The stuff on our walls consists of pictures of our travels (I avoid HL and Kirkland's like the plague).  I don't have a lot of "stuff" - too much to dust and I prefer the walls to be bare. I am the product of a person that has nicknacks and sh!t everywhere - I hate that.

Where did you get your curtains?  All of them have been custom made by a wonderful woman in Perry, Oklahoma. She is the absolute best.

One thing you love about your house and one thing you can't stand? I love that it is all "us" - it doesn't look like the house next door or the house across the street.  Everything we have put into the house has been done with an amazing amount of love and care - I take our home renos very seriously, clearly.  At the same time - it is so d@mn time consuming, it drives me crazy.

  • Do you have white or stained wood work?
Most of it is painted wood trim.  There was some remodeling done and so some areas have some exposed "barn wood" type trim.

When you bought your house, were the walls all one color or were some painted?
They were mostly painted a very very very pale gray-beige, but our bedroom is an awful sponged yellow and orange, and the upstairs bathroom is a pretty blue.

If they were all one color, did you paint any walls? If so, what color?
We repainted all of the gray-beige walls with the same color, just to freshen it up, and because we like the color.

Where do you get a lot of your home decor?
    Auctions and junk sales.  :-)

Where did you get your curtains?

  • Do you have white or stained wood work? Cabinets in kitchen and baths are stained, but base boards and doors are white.

When you bought your house, were the walls all one color or were some painted? A few were painted...Living/dining and lower entry way and stairwell is a golden yellow color, master bath and downstairs bath are a dark beige, hallway/accent wall by downstairs bed/ bath WAS a mauve-y color, Master bed WAS a dark olive green.

If they were all one color, did you paint any walls? If so, what color? We have since re-painted the mauve accent wall a deep red and our master batha creamy white with blue accent stripes around the top. Remaining bed/bath (furture nursey) is still white and no clue what to do with it.

Where do you get a lot of your home decor? A lot of it has come from Hobby Lobby...when we moved to CA I loaded up since there isn't one anywhere near us. On our 2 trips back home, since we drove I was able to load up again on more home decor stuff. Other than that a lot of it has come from IKEA.

Where did you get your curtains? No curtains anywhere but our bedroom...and I made them with some fabric that I bought online.

One thing you love about your house and one thing you can't stand? I love the general layout of our house. The open second floor plan with balcony, 2 car garage (which is a lot in SoCal). One thing I don't like is our counter tops in the kitchen. I had no idea how hard they would be to keep clean! They are probably 5x5in tile (white) with very skinny grout lines (white). I am hoping for some solid surface counters soon!!

If they were all one color, did you paint any walls? If so, what color? Painted them all. Some rooms are khaki, a couple are corriander and we have 1 red room.

  • Do you have white or stained wood work? White trim, dark wood floors

When you bought your house, were the walls all one color or were some painted? Everything was the same color :(

If they were all one color, did you paint any walls? If so, what color? No, it's too much of a pain for now

Where do you get a lot of your home decor? I've gotten quite a few things at The Market lately. I also like shopping online, but only at places with good return policies because I'm picky. I don't like having much "stuff" though.

Where did you get your curtains? We don't have curtains---just blinds

One thing you love about your house and one thing you can't stand? I love how open and airy it feels. I don't hate anything, but I wish our upstairs bonus and bath were finished.

  • Do you have white or stained wood work?  StainedWhen you bought your house, were the walls all one color or were some painted?  Our bedroom had light green walls, master bathroom had hideous wallpaper, guest bathroom was smurf blue, and one of the extra bedrooms looked like someone did some sponge painting in there.  All the other walls were WHITE.If they were all one color, did you paint any walls? If so, what color?  DH took down the master bath wallpaper when he bought the house, and last summer I painted the guest bathroom (it's a sea foam green now...can't remember the real name of the paint) and living/dining room, entryway, and hallway (they're all a neutral caramel/sand color).Where do you get a lot of your home decor?  We don't really have any decor, I suck at decorating Embarrassed.Where did you get your curtains?  G has curtains in his room but I'm not sure where my sister bought them.  The rest of the house just has wooden blinds. One thing you love about your house and one thing you can't stand?  Love the size and layout, hate how many reno projects we have to do to get it the way we want it.
  • Do you have white or stained wood work? stained a medium oak brown

When you bought your house, were the walls all one color or were some painted? all white walls. Our last rental house had mainly white walls, but a green wall and a yellow wall with sunflower border in the kitchen. I love accent walls like that.

If they were all one color, did you paint any walls? If so, what color? N/A- we're renters

Where do you get a lot of your home decor? I haven't done much decorating, but it's mainly our own pictures from travels mixed with some handmade art pieces I pick up at art fairs and craft alliance stores. I like knowing that nobody else can ever have the exact same art I do since it's not mass produced.

Where did you get your curtains? no curtains, just blinds

One thing you love about your house and one thing you can't stand?  The kitchen is huge- lots of counter space and tons of cabinet space with a walk-in pantry for food storage. I don't much care for the layout of several of the rooms- it doesn't make optimal use of the space (i.e. small living room shares a wall with huge master bedroom, which is the only access point to another bedroom sized "bonus room.")

  • Do you have white or stained wood work?

The baseboards are white and the crown molding has a dark stain.  I never would have planned it that way, but it really works together nicely in this house.  I typically prefer white.

When you bought your house, were the walls all one color or were some painted?

They were all painted the same neutral color.

If they were all one color, did you paint any walls? If so, what color?

Nope, didn't paint any of them.

Where do you get a lot of your home decor?

I don't have a good answer for this, but I wouldn't say my house is highly 'decorated' either.

Where did you get your curtains?

I've been meaning to get around to curtains in most rooms for the last four years.  I have wood blinds in all rooms and curtains that my sister made for me in the others.

One thing you love about your house and one thing you can't stand?

I love the spa-style doorless walk in shower.  I think the secondary bedrooms are way too small and the house is way too close to the neighbors.  If I wanted to hear the old man next door hacking up a lung, I would have lived in an apartment.

Do you have white or stained wood work? White.

When you bought your house, were the walls all one color or were some painted? They were all painted the same sh*t color: brown-taupe-beige crossover.  I hate it - big time.

If they were all one color, did you paint any walls? If so, what color?  DD's room is pale purple/lavender, hallway is blue-gray-white color, office is a Laura Ashley pale blue, living room is a neutral (mostly-pale) green, kitchen and dining room are a pale blue with a hint of grey, bedroom is a blue-green seafoam color.

Where do you get a lot of your home decor? Loveseat & Couch - Mathis Bros., bedroom furniture is a mixture of grandma's antiques & pre-husband furniture (not loving anymore), dining room furniture is antique from DH boss, DD's bed is my old dorm bed, and everything else is a mosh-posh of Target and handmade by DH.

Where did you get your curtains? Target.

One thing you love about your house and one thing you can't stand? I love how my couches but I hate how the stupid house keeps shifting and so cracks we filled in as we were renovating each stupid rooms have reappeared.

  • Do you have white or stained wood work? We have white base boards and crown molding.

When you bought your house, were the walls all one color or were some painted?  It is painted all the same color

If they were all one color, did you paint any walls? If so, what color?  No we haven't painted any yet. We are probably going to paint M's room gray soon since we are moving her into the bigger room in a couple of months.

Where do you get a lot of your home decor? Craft shows and Hobby Lobby. Some of them were gifts or antiques from family members.

Where did you get your curtains? Target

One thing you love about your house and one thing you can't stand? I love the location. Our neighorhood is really nice. I can't stand that there is not enough natural light available. My living room always seem so dark.

One thing you love about your house and one thing you can't stand? I love the location of our house, I hate the lack of kitchen counter space.

  • Do you have white or stained wood work? It's stained. It will eventually be replaced and painted white.

When you bought your house, were the walls all one color or were some painted? Most of the walls were painted white. The hallway was red. One of the bedrooms was an ugly blue.

If they were all one color, did you paint any walls? If so, what color? We painted the living room and our bedroom brown (I used two tones and sort of mixed them together with brushes. It's hard to explain, but it looks really good.) The ugly blue room is now a deep purple. The hallway is a better red. The kitchen will eventually be green. I have no idea what to paint the second spare room. It will most likely be left untouched until it becomes a nursery.

One thing you love about your house and one thing you can't stand? I love that it's in the country. Our dogs have plenty of room to roam and it's much quieter. I can't stand the popcorn ceilings. Yuck. We should have scraped them, but we didn't and probably won't for a while.
