class action lawsuits - do you join?

i have been getting emails from a cat food manufacturer to join their class action lawsuit. you get $200 or something if you join. however my cats never had any issue with the food so i decided not to join.

tonight i was listening to the tv as i was doing some work and there was one of those call us if you've ever been on blah blah blah then i hear them mention "if you had to have your gallbladder removed..." i was like, "what?" it was for Yasmin, a birth control pill i've been on. i probably won't contact them, but i was definitely like "oh wow!". i've never used a drug and had a result that they list on one of those lawsuit type commercials. seems kind of weird/unethical to go after the a drug company though given that i have a strong family history.

oh and weird thing, i ran into a friend of mine from yoga today at the post office and she reminded me that her daughter had GB surgery around the time that we had met. i knew she had surgery but didn't know the details at the time. i was surprised because her daughter was only 18 at the time! turns out she had limes disease (for four years, undiagnosed) and the iv antibiotics destroyed her GB. who knew?

  • Only one has come up.  It was against Galyan's/***'s Sporting Goods for unfair break/lunch practices.  The details of the lawsuit didn't apply to me when I worked there so I didn't opt in.  I wouldn't have gotten very much money if I had.  I just didn't feel right about claiming I was treated a certain way when I wasn't.  Sure their practices were crappy, but I wasn't forced to work for free like the lawsuit claimed.
  • Any notice that I or J have ever received, in all honesty, I have just been too damn lazy to read the forty pages of accompanying text to see if we qualify.  I've never felt wronged enough by anything/anyone to feel like I need to seek out financial retribution anyway.  And like I said - just too damn lazy.

Yep! I do know that my Paw Paw was in one of the Asbestos ones, but it had something to do wtih the company and everyone that worked there was automatically submitted. I have no idea how much they got, but I don't think it was much.
