Biology Study Aid Recommendations Anyone?
My sister's DH is taking some college courses this semester and they are looking for a good study aid for his biology class. My sister calls me last night and asks me for recommendations (yep...the music teacher LOL) and I said I had no idea, but that I could ask around. So ladies....do you have any recommendations for good biology study aids? TIA!
Re: Biology Study Aid Recommendations Anyone?
I don't know of any particular study aids, but I know I used flash cards a lot in biology. It's probably a lot of memorization and I think flashcards are good for that. He should also look to see if the textbook for the course has a companion website (A LOT of them do). On these websites there may be chapter summaries, animations, quizzes and maybe even interactive labs. Also if it is anything where he will have lab practicals he needs to make sure that he goes in when there is open lab.
If he is really struggling and has time, he should see if the college offers a study group or tutoring. Most schools I am sure have some sort of study skills center that would have information on this. I used the study center at our university to make my way through organic chemistry. The study center found someone to give study sessions twice a week.
I was a biology major in undergrad, and found that highlighting the book really helped for me - something about the process helped cement it in my brain. Is there a particular kind of biology class he's working on? Plant bio vs. cells vs. animals vs. chemical components (merging into biochem)? I used flashcards for biochem stuff, studied the diagrams for plant bio like crazy... it's just really dependent on the kind of biology he's studying!
