My mail was arriving very delayed (two weeks late) with multiple postmarks. The delivery man was sending my mail back out with the outgoing mail. I think this was payback for complaining after he refused to take my outgoing mail for 10 days.
I finally complained to the right person (local consumer affairs office). He did not get fired (or any disciplinary action that I'm aware of other than a reprimand). Since then my mail has been hand initialed near the postmark, so I assume it is being cleared by a supervisor.
Most recently, I ordered an item online which included delivery confirmation/tracking. The item arrived at the initial shipping facility but never left there. A USPS rep told me she wouldn't be surprised if it took two weeks to arrive (expected delivery was 3 days or so) and if it never arrived oh well since there was no insurance on it. The company I purchased the item from sent out a replacement item after a 10 day waiting period. The day the replacement item arrived, the original item's shipping info was updated to the same days/times as the new item, then marked as undeliverable.
Overall, I have found USPS employees to be rude, unhelpful, and unapologetic. It is a very helpless feeling to have no control over whether your mail arrives. Normally my mail is fairly unimportant, but some of the items that were rerouted included both of our driver's licenses, DH's paycheck, and personal checks.
