Am I nuts, or did someone here have a pregnancy where the baby only had 2 vessels in the umbilical cord? I have a friend from high school going through this now and she is really freaking out. I was hoping someone could give her some good info/positive experience.
Thanks.
Re: BOTB: 2-Vessel Cord
I'm possibly going through that right now and I'm freaking out a little too. I will hopefully find out one way or the other October 4th. My ob couldn't see what she needed at my u/s on Friday, so now it's just wait and see.
From what I have read, if everything else on the a/s looked good, then it is a good sign.
My OB didn't sound worried at all. She found everything else she needed and everything look good, measuring on time and etc. She said that if it is a 2-vessel cord that I will just be monitored a lot more closely in the 3rd trimester because that is when it can cause growth restriction...she also said she recently delivered an 8-lb baby with a 2-vessel cord, so it doesn't even always affect that.
hi i mostly lurk but i had this with my first DD and it was really scary the day i found out at my big ultrasound. someone on the bump helped me get through some of my fears that had gone through the same thing so you are welcome to give her my email if you want me to send to you?
they did monitor me closer and i had NST (non stress tests) and more ultrasounds than normal during the 3rd tri to make sure she was growing on track. the main concern my doctor had was her not getting enough from me towards the end, so she said she would most likely not let me go full term. well of course i worried the whole pregnancy and right at 37 weeks she delivered her because the felt like she would do better on the outside. she was small (4lbs 10 oz) but perfectly healthy. she spent one night in the NICU to monitor her breathing and went home with us after the normal 2 days in the hospital. she caught up quick with her weight and is doing great now at 3 1/2! the docor said it happens more with girl babies and they aren't sure why it happens but most of the time everything is completely fine.
sorry so long, anyways i hope everything goes well for her and let me know if she wants my email.
