Thanksgiving

Who's family do you have Thanksgiving dinner with?

Re: Thanksgiving

  • Mine.  We do Christmas with his.

  • We do both. We go to my parents first and do lunch and then do dinner with his family. My parents live about 25 minutes in one direction and DH's family lives about 40 in the other direction. It is a lot of driving in one day, but it is only 1 day a year and since our families mean so much to us, we don't mind.

  • Totally depends. Our families are both plane rides away. Last year we stayed in our state and had it with friends.

This year we are flying to my sister's and spending it with my family.

So next year, we'll likely spend it with Dh's family.

I will not drag DS around on the plane and in airports for Christmases so Txg is going to have to be our travel holiday.

  • Lately it's been mine due to our crazy family schedules. But he'll with me to see my family then due to my schedule I can't, so he'll go alone to his own family. Last year we did his and not mine at all.

  • We're about a 6 hour drive (although on holiday weekends like T-giving, traffic makes it 8) from both our folks' places, so lately we've been vacationing instead. It gives us an excuse to not have to choose or go crazy trying to dash to all FOUR Thanksgiving dinners our families plan. This year, we're going to China.

  • Depends last year we had Christmas at my parents and Thanksgiving with his.
  • We usually switch off. One year is my family the next is his. However, my MIL lost her battle with Cancer this past spring and my FIL and SIL will be joining my family this year.
  • We switch every year, which is dumb because our parents live 20 minutes from each other. Not my idea. Whatevs.

This year we are celebrating Thanksgiving with my parents and Christmas with his family but we're all going down to Orlando.

  • We have spent Thanksgiving with my family for years (I am willing to do both, but he is not interested).  This year we are hoping to fly his mom up from FL, so I would host dinner for whatever parts of our families want to come.
  • DH's get thanksgiving.  Tried the whole see everyone on both sides one year..and it was a very very long day and will never do that again.

  • We host.  My parents and the ILs are invited but ILs never attend (despite the fact that they live 1 minute from our house) so we spend it with my parents every year.  Works for me because I get brownie points for inviting them but I know they'll never come so I don't have to deal with them, but they look like the bad person, not me.
