RP from local, Tutu Tutorial?

Any favorite tutu tutorials out there?  I need to make one for my daughter's halloween costume, Angelina Ballerina as the Rose fairy princess.  lol... they can be so specific sometimes. So I have the mouse part covered. But my mouse needs a tutu. I was thinking of fluffy and shortish so it sticks out to the side like a ballerina. Any tips or tricks?  I can sew so the "tie tulle onto an elastic band" strategy isn't necessary.

Thanks!

Re: RP from local, Tutu Tutorial?

  • If you want it to stick out to the sides, the most important thing is to do graduated layers, with the shorter layers underneath, use more layers and make them full.

I would probably make a series of skirts with a casing and elastic, and attach them to the costume in a few spots, one above the other, with the elastic bands on the underside if possible, and it will help it stick out more.

I make real tutus, so any more pointers I can give are probably going to be more work than you want. Wink

I would be glad to help though...you can PM me if you have any questions (or a better explanation-lol).

  • Thanks for the tip on the graduated layers!  It makes sense, and I will be sure to bother you once I get my mind wrapped around this a little more.  Last year I made her a cupcake costume and had so much fun with it.  So I am really excited about this project too!

My dogs were cupcakes a few years ago....I think that is still my favorite costume.lol

  • I just saw your daughter's costume with sprinkles, had to show you my costumes sans pups.  Unfortunately the headpieces aren't there, but the one with the sprinkles had a cherry on top too.

  • OMG!  Those are epic!  What kinds of dogs do you have?
  • Chinese Crested dogs...three of the hairless and one coated.  They are pretty small, and absolutely love the attention from hundreds of trick or treaters.  Since I sew pretty, but not too exciting dance costumes, Halloween is when I go all out with weird.

    This was last year.

  • You are really talented!   We have a couple little boston terriers and they are less enthusiastic about being dressed up. Although before we had our daughter, and we just had the one dog I made her some bat wings for Halloween.
