Speech help....

Any of you girls ever write a maid of honor speech?

I am desperatly trying to figure out the right words to say at my best friends wedding. Tips? Advice? Or maybe something that was done/said at your wedding that i can do/not do!

Re: Speech help....

  • I've never been a MOH, but the toasts I've liked the most are the ones that have 1 or 2 personal stories/jokes but don't have too many inside jokes (it feels awkward as a guest when you don't get half the speech) and are between 3-5 minutes.

  • I don't want this to be a "what not to do post", but sadly some of the bad things stick out the best.  One thing that I think happens often is that the MOH will talk about her friend at length and how well they know each other... but this isn't the MOH and Bride getting married, it's about the Bride and Groom.  So while it's good to tell a story about how you are best friends and what a great person she is, I think it's important to make sure a good portion of it talks about how the Bride and Groom are good together etc.  I guess this can be hard if you don't know the Groom well enough or haven't seen them together (or if you don't like him! lol), but maybe just keep that in mind :)
  • i would collaborate with the best man for at least an idea.........at our wedding, the best man had a very long, *hilarious* speech that everyone absolutely loved. my MOH followed up with a 1 minute, sentimental one...and it just was very unevenly matched. everyone felt bad for her because the BM speech was pretty awesome.

    This!

  • I like this formula:

    How you know the bride

One cute personal story between you/bride

What bride was like when she met groom

Cute personal story bride told you about groom

Joint memory between you, bride, groom

    Wedding advice

    "Let's toast"
