One of our friends invited us to a dinner party. I thought oooh, fun...food! I'm in!
Then, I learned that a woman would be cooking us dinner. She was driving up from Texas to do this in order to sell a line of cookware.
H's friend and his wife and myself and H would be the only ones in attendance besides the woman doing the cooking and her husband.
I looked up the cookware line and a very basic set retails for $998. Almost $1000. Seriously? That is not what I want to spend my money on.
I text her and told her I wasn't interested in buying cookware, and didn't feel comfortable with this woman driving from TX to try to sell me something I had no interest in. I suggested maybe we could do dinner and a movie sometime and that I was sorry for backing out. I feel like a total b!tch for backing out, but dang. I can handle a Scentsy brick for 4 bucks, a jewelry line for $30-40 per piece...a package of dip for $7.50. But $1k? NO.
Re: Best one yet.
Agreed. This was shitty of her.
Let's say for sake of argument (doubtful) that they are the best pans on earth. I'd NEVER spend $1000 on pans without doing tons of research first. Did she think you were just going to buy them that night?
This girl is so so sooo sweet. That's why I don't think she intended to pressure me into anything. I really think her friend asked her to host this for her and she was just desperately searching for a couple. She has gotten into selling some jewelry (she's having a party tonight, actually) and so I think the deal with that is that if she hosts a party for her, the other will return the favor. But like I said--inexpensive jewelry? Fine. $1k cookware? No way dude.
Also, I've been married a little over 6 years. My cookware is perfectly fine.
Dude, no way.
I love my cookware. And do you want to know how old my cookware is? There's a photo of it sitting on the gift table at my grandparent's wedding in 1957. I still use it (I've purchased a few nonstick pans through the years, but that's it), and it is amazing.
