So, this warning was sent out by our building's management team a few minutes ago:
U.S. Counterterrorism officials have been investigating the threat throughout the night into this morning ref. a credible but unconfirmed al-Qaida threat to use a car bomb on bridges or tunnels in New Your City or Washing D.C. Law Enforcement officials are pursuing three people who may be traveling to the U.S. or who have recently entered the county, based on the detailed information received by the U.S. intelligence community late Wednesday.
The FBI and Homeland Security Department issued a joint intelligence bulletin Thursday night to law enforcement around the country urging them to maintain increased security and be on the lookout for suspicious activity. The threat came in a single piece of information and was so specific?and came at such a time of already heightened alert---that it could not be ignored.
You are asked to go about your business as usual. You will see an increased security presence throughout the day and evening. Please be aware of your surroundings and report anything you perceive as suspicious or out of place to security or 911.
Sigh....I know that this weekend's anniversary was too big of an event to pass up for those wishing us harm. But I was secretly hoping and praying for an uneventful weekend. I am still doing so. But I just don't know...ugh!!!
Re: Terror Threat Warning...
I'm in the city. I took the GWB in which is my usual commute. Granted I left about an hour and 45min earlier then normal, but that was mostly because due to the flooding traffic which has been nightmarish all week so I figured heightened security plus the people who were diverted from flooding meant getting in early would be better. So it took me 1hour 15min (with bridge traffic) rather then the 2hours 30min it took most of this week!
Anyway....there were more police at the lower level of the bridge probably double then what I normally see. And I'm sure there were more I couldn't see.
Hopefully they find who they are looking for and/or this turns out to be nothing.
Amen, Laur! That's what I'm hoping will happen as well. We are close enough to DC that we are on alert as well here in MD. Kudos to our intelligence community for sniffing this out. Praying that they are successful in getting these fools.
Yeah this all freaks me out too. I really am hoping that they figure everything out and these end up being empty threats.
From what I understand they have been working on beefing up security at the Meadowlands for weeks, so I would not worry about him there! My DH will be there as well, so I can totally understand where you are coming from.
I'm so worried for you ladies! Stay safe!
IMO, I think part of "their" plan is to scare people and I think they are doing a good job at it. I pray that nothing happens!
