A 25th Anniversary/ New Year's Eve Party
My in-laws are celebrating their 25th anniversary this coming New Years Eve and I have volunteered to throw them a party except I have no clue what direction to go in. It will probably be 50 people or so invited and normally we have all of the get together's at their house. That is not an option because I just can't to that to my MIL I want her to enjoy this not feel like it is something she has "slaved" over. And my house is too small to try and have a party at in the winter time. So I need some ideas. Anything will help. Thanks!!
Re: A 25th Anniversary/ New Year's Eve Party
For that many people, I think you'll need to see what venues are open. Does any one of you live in a neighborhood with a clubhouse? Belong to a country club? Maybe a church with a nice public space? What about something more out of the way, like an art gallery, university building or local gov't building? I don't know how many restaurants would be willing to do an exclusive booking on NYE...

Thinking of doing cosmetic updates to a dated home? These were our costs.
Tarheels gave some excellent ideas. Frankly, this late in the year you may have a tough time getting something booked. You might have to think creatively- maybe a church hall? Another thought might be to book a housecleaner for your ILs.
You might even need to consider holding the party the following weekend.
But a guest list of 50 people for a party in the dead of winter is going to require a bigger space than a typical house. And the cost of renting a facility on New Years Eve is going to be astronomical. I would really recommend that you move the party to the following weekend or cut down the guest list, unless you've got lots of cash to spend on this.
