Re: camera

  • I have had the best luck with Canon power shots.  I got one in 2004 and the screen started dying out in 2009 so I bought another one and it has lasted well.  The pics turn out great.  I helped my mom get one for her trip to Sweden and the pics turned out great as well!!!  She got a PowerShot ELPH 100 HS or something similar.  Maybe also read reviews online.  I did a ton of research before buying the one I did in 2004.  For the last one, I needed it to go on a cruise and my other one's screen broke so I more bought that when I needed it and didn't research as much. I have a Kodak at work and it drives me crazy.  Rechargable batteries don't work in it and the batteries die all the time. Also, if the batteries are not in it exactly one way, it won't turn on.  (It was a 99.00 camera bought with boxtop money so that could be why too.)  The Canon comes with a rechargeable Canon battery and charger!

  • great thanks- I def dont want a point/shoot kind of camera I think we're going to start researching
  • If you are in the market for a simple point & shoot: Canon Power Shot ELPH (or any of their slim compact models, retail around $100-$120

Advanced point & shot: Canon Power shot G12, or Olympus, more feature, more zoom, retail around $200-$300

DSLR: Canon EOS Rebel, the XS 1000 is what I use, it's mid-price range, has good customer support and is very user friendly to the photog new to DSLRs. The other Canon models are just so many bells and whistles, and with the XS100 I can get most the shots I want with just 1 of 2 lenses (a 18-55 and 75-1000, i think). The Nikon DSLRs is did not find to be as user friendly for being new to DSLR, and in general I just don't like their cameras/software.

Overall, I think Olympus has the best support, then Canon. If you are looking for a DSLR try newegg because they tend to have good package deals on body + lenses that are cheaper than going to your big box electronics store. If you are looking into any of these, let me know there are all models I have owned and used and have lasted me years (minus the DSLR, that was my valentines gift this year!)
