My sister and her husband always throw a really fun Halloween party every year and everyone dresses in costumes. Does anybody have any good costume ideas that will work on a budget (as in not having to spend more than $50 or so)? Maybe a good couple costume idea? I've found some okay ideas surfing the web, but I feel like my DH and I always have the lamest costumes and I want do something decent this year.
Re: Halloween costume ideas?
I'm trying to decide what I'll do this year. I've been batting around the idea of decorating the house like "Clue" and inviting our close friends to dress as a Clue character. Mostly, I really want to dress like a French maid, so I think it would fit
I've also always wanted to get three friends together to dress as the witches from Hocus Pocus and sew an awesome dress.
Last year a group of our friends showed up to our party dressed as Mario characters. They had sewn their costumes from felt (very cheap to make) and made paper mache big heads. It was hilarious!
These are more groups then couples, I suppose, but I did see some fabulous Angry birds costumes for sale at buycostumes.com. My husband is realllllly addicted to that game, so it's fitting.
Our friends are so creative. One couple came dressed as Tetris pieces (made from cardboard and paint and suspenders).

In the past DH and I have gone as:
Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf
Oedipus and Jocasta (he LOVED that one because he got to do creepy eye makeup and I got to walk around with a noose around my neck)
Cleopatra and a Mummy
Fred and Daphne from Scooby Doo
Cap'n Mal and Inara from Firefly
This year we were going to do Inspector Gadget and Penny, but I don't think we'll be heading anywhere this year so that's on the back burner.
Mario and Princess Peach
Fred and Wilma Flintstone
Woody and Jessie from Toy Story
Marilyn Monroe and Elvis
Fred & Wilma
Red Riding Hood & Wolf
Doctor/Nurse
Last year we were Bee Keepers, and our DD was a baby bumble bee
This year we are going classic - Spider, witch, & ghost
Iron Man (Tony Stark) and Pepper Pots
My sister and her BF did it last year. All items can be found in your closet or around the house.
Iron Man/Tony Stark - He wore a suit with a white shirt underneath, he took a glow in the dark necklacke and some craft glue and made something that looked like the heart chest thingy that Iron man has. He put it under his shirt against his skin so it glowed underneath his dress shirt. It looked pretty cool. Play around with those glow things for a while until you get something that looks like it. Get creative :-)
For Pepper- wear a high waisted pencil skirt, blouse, black heels, carry a clipboard/agenda with the logo of STARK ENTERPRISES on the back of it. And pull your hair back into a low bun.
Good luck post pics of what you finally choose!
Our first halloween together I was a Toothfairy and he was a dentist.
Last year we were Post-it Note and Sharpie. He wore grey sweatpants that he wrote Sharpie on the sides of each pant leg and wore a black long sleeved shirt and a black stocking cap. To be Post-it I found a yellow t-shirt that was the perfect shade and cut the sides (not all the way up just a few inches) so it looked like you could flip it up and on the back I sharpied Post-it all over so it looked like the back of the Post-it note pad. I just wore khakis for pants.I had mini sharpie markers clipped to my pockets and top of my shirt. I considered writing on the front or letting people wright on the front but I decided against it.
The last idea isn't very fancy but it was very cheap!! We got my shirt and his pants at Walmart and the rest we had. We have no idea what we are going to do this year. Good luck!
