Rec your rotary cutter and mat, please?!

Ok now that I am sewing more and cutting more my RA and fibro are getting the best of my hands. I need a rotary cutter and mat!

What do you ladies recommend?

Re: Rec your rotary cutter and mat, please?!

  • For a mat, I recommend Olfa.  I have both an Olfa and a Fiskars and my Olfa is a million times better.  I recommend you get the biggest one you can.  I have an 18 x 24, which suits my needs pretty well.

For cutters, I have had both an Olfa and a Fiskars as well.  I lost my Olfa and replaced it with a Fiskars because it was cheaper.  I'm happy with it.

  • Is that a brand carried at JoAnn's? (Olfa)
  • JoAnn's carries both Olfa mats and rotary cutters.

I had a fiskars cutter for many years and thought it was great, but I  bought a couple of Olfa cutters in two different sizes recently, and I can't believe how much better they are...I won't go back to fiskars.

Watch for sales, because JoAnn frequently has them for 50% off.

    AWESOME! Thanks!

  • Ditto Olfa. I also have the 18x24 mat and it is the perfect size for me so far.

  • I have an Olfa cutter and a fiskars mat. I started out with Fiskars for both but the blades on the cutter didn't stay very sharp.

Never pay full price for any of them. Use a Joann's coupon or wait for a sale.

I also recommend buying a cutter in two sizes, the large one and the small ones. It's just easier to get into those tight areas with the smaller one.

  • You ladies are the best!

And I never pay full price for anything.... Wink

  • Another Olfa. I have 2 different sizes of the mats, as well as two different size cutters. I switched from a Fiskars and it was so much better.

  • I have an olfa mat and olfa cutters. I like my 60 mm cutter for large straight cuts, but love my 28mm for small stuff.  My mat is 24x36 and I wish it were bigger when I'm trying to cut pieces for clothing for myself.
