Quitting my Job

I am currently a teacher in the public school system. This is my 2nd year of teaching and we are 11 days into the new school year. I HATE it. My heart just isn't in it. I dread going to work everyday. The dread includes tears and almost anxiety attacks. I know that it's not fair to the kids or school to have a teacher who hates their job. I just don't like teaching. I'm debating on resigning but also feel bad because the school year has already started.. I have an interview lined up for another job on Wednesday. I just need some opinions on how awful or not awful it would be to resign after finding another job. Thanks!

If you find another job, don't feel guilty about quitting. Do what you want; it's your life, and if NC is anything like FL, I'm sure they will be able to find someone to take your place who looks forward to being there, which will no doubt provide a better experience for the students (I don't mean that in a snarky way at all).

In this economy, I am sure there are plenty of people who would want your job, and the school won't have any problem replacing you.  Do what is best for yourself.

Agreed, but if your finances are tight it prob would be best to line up another job before leaving. Life is too short to be miserable! If there were a teacher shortage I'd probably say some crap about the responsibility to the kids but the fact is they could replace you in a second. I'd do it!

Assuming you have another job lined up, I wouldn't have a problem quitting.  I would double-check what the consequences of quitting mid-year could be first though - if you ever want to return to teaching or do anything with the union again (if you're union) then there could be repercussions.
