Does anyone have any suggestions for places to go hiking in central and eastern KY that aren't too far (2 hours or less) from the Lexington area? Great views are a major plus. We mainly like to hike, but we'd also like to go kayaking one day.
We've been trying to go someplace new every week on DH's day off while the weather is still nice. So far we've done Raven Run in Lexington, the Pinnacles in Berea, Natural Bridge State Park in Slade. We're thinking we might do Cumberland Falls next, but we're trying to line up a few more places for the fall also.
I've found trails.com and Trip Advisor to be helpful, but I like hearing from other people.
Re: Hiking and Outdoor Activities
I have never been there myself, but this place is supposed to be good.I am not exactly sure how far it is, but it is about 5 min from my house!

There are other hiking trails at Red River Gorge. If I understand everything, Natural Bridge is part of Red River Gorge.
Mammoth Cave isn't too much of a drive, just north of Bowling Green. The grounds have hiking trails as well as cave tours.

Thank you for the suggestions! I'll definitely look into these.
I've been wanting to check out http://www.breakspark.com/ The Breaks Interstate Park, they call it the Grand Canyon of the South.
Daniel Boone national forest covers a lot of ground... I would check here http://www.fs.fed.us/r8/boone/recreation/trailmain.shtml and check out some of the trails they have to offer as well.
Best of luck!
