a bit of a scare

Never thought this would happen to me.... but I found a lump in my breast last week.

DH was away for a couple days so I let it sit until he came back. I wanted to make sure I wasn't imagining anything. I called the doctor Thursday morning and they got me in right away. I went from the GP to the radiologist to getting biopsied all within a few hours. It all went so fast!

Waiting 24 hours for the biopsy results was the worst. DH and I just held each other a lot that night.

But thank goodness, everything came back normal! They still want to take the lump out. Then they can test it and know 100% what's going on. I'll have the operation in three weeks.

Just wanted to let you guys know. Ask that you keep us in your thoughts and prayers in a few weeks. And also remind you all to give yourselves an examination! You're never too young to think about it. I'm only 28!

  • Ughhh! How scary! I'm glad to know it all turned out okay. Keep checking those tatas! I found a lump on a Friday evening and had to wait until Monday to get an appointment. In the end it was nothing but it's the most horrendous wait.

Yeah, we've been very impressed so far. My father is a general surgeon and does breast surgery like this all the time. The doctor here has been communicating with him with each step and he says they're doing everything right.

The difference is amazing....I had my appendix out in the States a couple years ago. The total bill was something like $30,000 (I paid $6,000 with my out-of-pocket insurance limit). We already got the cost of things here and it was about $500. DH and I actually started laughing when the receptionist handed us the bill. And insurance here will cover every bit of it anyway.

Now I understand when you guys talk about your hesitation in moving back to the States. It's night and day!

I can't imagine having to wait a whole weekend. It's too much! Glad everything turned out ok for you!

  • Wow, that is scary!!  I found a lump a few years ago and went through a similar process (no surgery, thankfully), so I know how scary it can be.  Hang in there...I hope the surgery goes smoothly with a very quick recovery!  Sending lots of T&Ps your way!

  • Scary stuff, I'm so glad the biopsy came back negative. Good luck with surgery, hopefully it's a quick one with fast recovery.
  • Scary stuff! Glad to hear it was negative.
  • That's scary.  Glad things look normal and hope everything else goes smoothly.

I know how you feel.  I've felt multiple lumps over the past years, and have them checked out on a regular basis (no issues yet, but there are some that have never gone away).  I was so freaked out the first time.

  • Thanks for the all the thoughts, guys.

It's not something I'd wish on anyone, but it's still comforting to know that a few of you have had similar situations. Makes me feel like it's less serious. Not that it should be treated any less so, just good to know it's common enough.
