Sport Medicine Docs/Foot Docs Recommendation?
I'm training for my first marathon (Chicago, 10/9). Marathon is in 4 weeks and I'm experiencing an awful pain on the right side of my foot. Super bummed as I really want to do the marathon. I can walk on it but have pain when I put full weight on it. I don't have a ton of swelling but its very tendy to touch.
Looking to get into a doctor ASAP. Any recommendations?
Re: Sport Medicine Docs/Foot Docs Recommendation?
I don't have any recommendations, but want to wish you good luck. I've heard that Chicago is an amazing marathon to run and would like to do it myself some day.
Injuries while training are such a bummer!
I would also like to say good luck in Chicago! Such a cool accomplishment to do a marathon.
I am obviously not a doctor, but from the description it sounds maybe like a stress fracture? I also do not have a recommendation - I'm actually waiting for my yearly doctor visit so I can get a referral for foot pain I've been having (which I've self diagnosed as plantar fascitis). I would maybe just call your regular doc and see if he/she can refer over the phone - since the marathon is in 4 weeks I would definitely do ASAP. Rest until you get to the doc too. My general rule of thumb is that if pain is specific and sharp, don't run. If pain is general and dull (think muscle soreness), keep running.
I hope you can heal quickly and kick some marathon butt! Although it may stink since you've done a lot of training, I do believe Chicago let's you defer until next year - an option if the injury is too serious to overcome in time.
