Assistance please for epic wedding RSVP

A friend of ours is having a second wedding reception in the UK and has graciously invited us. This friend is well versed in wedding related etiquette, and the groom's parents (who are apparently quite posh) have sent out the invitations, etc.

The bride ( who is awesome, by the way ) has given us her full blessing to give her MIL a minor heart attack with our RSVP - and here is where I would love some IN help if possible!

The invitation was for myself and DH only, but the bride has said that kids are more than welcome to attend the reception as well.

So we're going to RSVP something along the lines of:

"Tofumonkey, Mr. Tofumonkey, Thing 1, Thing 2 and their Chinese Nanny, Miss Na would be honoured to attend."

Now, that's not quite enough of a heart attack RSVP so we are thinking of including  a bit about the nanny only eating dog and if necessary, is able to provide either her own or some to share at the reception.

Thoughts on wording? Or perhaps any other ideas of how to level up this RSVP from merely "amusing" to "epic"?

When referring to the dog, should we italicize it and call it canis familiaris?

Re: Assistance please for epic wedding RSVP

  • I could include a recipe for the dog the way Ms Na prefers it.  Also state that as your children are attended its obvious that they will need to acquire a space for them to take a nap during the wedding and reception.  You can also include a long list of items your child is allergic two and demand that none of them be around at the reception (of course implying that they should have obviously known about this issue ahead of time)
  • Hmmm.... interesting... I must admit, I like your style.

What? No, this is far too every-day occurrance for "The Book".

  • Oh, this is going to be AWESOME!!!  Definitely italicize, and if possible, include a specific breed that Ms. Na finds most tasty.  A recipe included would be helpful, of course.

I would also demand organic food for the darlings, and ask that it be served in some ridiculous, like bone china or whatnot, as everything else is tainted by plebian germs.  I think you're going to have the most luck with the babies and the nanny...if you put in something about you and the DH, that might seem crass.

  • Should I handwrite the recipe in Chinese on a traditional recipe card? And then scribble poorly translated English in the margin?

  • Also come up with some ridiculous wedding present that they will have to help you to house... like a Pony and as for their recommendation on a good stable nearby or their garden....

    YES!

I agree that Thing 1 and Thing 2 need organic food and your nanny needs free-range dog.

  • I like it, but if it gets too over the top they will realize that it is a joke. I want them to be really caught off guard, to the point that they will have to call the bride and groom to see if we are serious or not.

Excellent point about the free-range dog. We should incorporate that somehow.

Please note that Miss Na has severe western food allergies and eats only free-range canis familiaris.

  • Oh wow, posted this on the Knot etiquette board, they think I'm racist. Forgot how crazy the nest can get outside of our own board. Oopsies.

Yes, please, to all of it! We need a picture for proof when you are done.

  • OMG! You have to let us know the MIL's response!

I have nothing to add to your RSVP, the karaoke list suggestion is great. I have to say, I love the etiquette board's replies.

    Aaaaaaaaaand Snippy for the save!

Good lord about the reaction on etiquette. Keep us updated on the final product and the reaction! I just started school and need something to make me laugh..

  • Due to DH's severe allergy, please can they refrain from using any flowers at the wedding or reception? Plastic flowers look just as nice. And, please can you not be seated behind any ladies wearing hats at the ceremony? You'd love to be able to see the happy event, after all.
