I'd like to make one for my daughter's first birthday and the no sew method seems to be super simple, especially because i have tons of unused elastic headbands that would work as the belt/waist.
I plan to purchase tulle off etsy so that I can get a variety of colors without buying whole rolls at michaels or acmoore -where the colors are limiting anyway - really to traditional wedding colors. It's a fall party, so hot pink, orange, brown, yellow, green, etc.
I have no idea how much total yardage I need for this, especially because I'd like to make it super puffy.
Anyone have any direction of material measurements so I can pay shipping just once and get everything together? I think each strip needs to be no more than 24" (so it doubles to 12" when attached to the band), and someone the other day mentioned layers in different lengths too.

Hobby Lobby has tons of colors, but it's cheaper to buy from PaperMart online. If you get the 25 yard rolls, and you wanted to do 2-3 colors, you'd have plenty. I think I can usually get 2-3 tutus out of one roll when I do 2 colors. You'll probably have extra if you do more than 2 colors, but extra is better than too little. And the prices are definitely lower, even if you pay for shipping. The key is to make sure you scrunch them in really tight when you knot them on the elastic. I find it easier to sew the elastic, then find a little kids' chair to slip the elastic onto the back of and then do the knotting that way.
Good luck.

a little over 30 minutes away each - and I'm never in that area for anything. My options are limited near home, so I was looking online.
thanks for the tips!
Hobby Lobby is at least an hour from me - I've never been.

I bought some pre-cut tulle for my niece's birthday party and the lady on Etsy worked with me to figure out how much I needed for th 10 tutus I was making and gave me a pretty good shipping rate. I wanted a lot of colors and have no idea how I would have cut the tulle properly so it was a good find. http://www.etsy.com/listing/52456948/pre-cut-tulle-make-your-own-tutu
