I am hosting something this weekend and I have gotten this RSVP from 2 families.
"Wellll, that date looks open as of now. We *should* (emphasis on should) be able to come."
What does this mean? I plan on coming, but I'm keeping my options open in case something else comes along? One of these responses is from one of my favorite mom friends and it really irked me! Maybe I'm reading too much into it - but it hurt my feelings a little. You are either coming or you aren't. Of course, I understand with kids things happen and you might not be able to come last minute. But wording it like this and the delivery didn't imply that.
People are weird.
Re: what is up with this RSVP?
That is incredibly rude, selfish and inconsiderate of them. That would irk me too!
Good Luck with your event this weekend anyways.
That was my thought.

Thinking of doing cosmetic updates to a dated home? These were our costs.
"Wellll, that date looks open as of now. We *should* (emphasis on should) be able to come."...
I wouldn't interpret this any other way... with young children there is always the possibility of spending the night in the ER etc. But the date "looking" open and we "should" be able to come is very sketchy.
BTW - my sister also had this happen to her recently when she threw a "bouncy house" type party - a lot of parents didn't RSVP and some did the "We might be going to a ball game that day... we'll let you know later if we can make it" two days before!
GL!
Doesn't that sort of go without saying when someone RSVPs 'yes', though? Of course the 'yes' becomes a 'no' at the last minute if someone is sick.
exactly, otherwise everyone could only ever RSVP "maybe" to any event!
