Balloon glow in Forest Park.

My family and I were thinking of going to the Great Forest Park Balloon Glow this friday night.  My family has never been before and tried to go last year, but we were a bunch of dum dums and didn't leave  the house till 6.  Let's just say we didn't get anywhere near the park.  Had to leave and go home.  We took time off to go this year but were curious what would be the best time to arrive there.  I was thinking noon but my husband thinks that is too early and would be hard on us since we now have a 5 month old and a toddler.  Would two  or three be ok ?  Would we still be able to find a parking spot ?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Balloon glow in Forest Park.

  • Get there early but it sounds like you know that.  I went at about 4:30 or 5 a few years ago and did find a spot in the upper back Muny parking lot but spots were getting scarce.  I would get there at 2 or 3 if you can.  Find a great parking spot and then you can find a great spot on the grass.  Take a tarp or several blankets to spread out on and so people don't come sit on top of you.  People will come and sit right next to your stuff. Take a lot of supplies for your kids (snacks, drinks, toys, etc.)  Have fun and enjoy it!  It will take you a long time to get out of the park with traffic when it is over.  Remember that and you won't be as stressed!

  • Thanks for the advice.

We did end up going yesterday and it was wonderful.  We loved walking through all of the balloons.  We got there around 1:30 and that was too early.  Some of the food vendors weren't even set up yet.  I think next year we will try to be there by 3 or 3:30.  We parked at the Muny and the lot was almost empty.  It did take a while to get out but we knew that.  We sat there with the car off for about 30 minutes and then left.  Once we got out of the lot it wasn't much trouble although we exit by hampton but by the skating rink.

  • Glad you had a good time!  I met up with some friends before it and they went onto it and I went home. They walked from the CWE so they didn't have to deal with traffic.  On my way home I saw a ton of people walking towards the park.  It really is a great event!
