Nursery Rhyme Baby Shower Themed food ideas?

Hi party planner experts! I'm working on a menu for a baby shower that will be held in the mid-morning hours.

The baby shower theme is Nursery Rhymes and we're having it at a cute locally owned book store.

I'd like to theme the food as well and was hoping for some idea help! (i.e. Humpty Dumpty  Deviled Eggs - Little Miss Muffet Muffins)

OR any other suggestions for this theme are very welcome!

Thanks!!

  • My first thought was Three Little Pigs Bacon.  That's probably not so cute though.

Just make sure you actually have food that people want to eat and work together.

  • that IS cute though! And good point ;) Thanks!

  • You could do cottage cheese and fruit parfaits and call them "curds and whey".

Put labels on water bottles or a water pitcher that say "Fetch a pail of water"

Depending on the time of day, cinnamon rolls or rolls with butter can be "hot crossed buns"

Any pie or mini tarts can be "4 and 20 blackbirds bakes in a pie"--if you want to run with the theme use a pie bird or make the top crust with overlapping crust cut-outs using a bird cookie cutter.

You could make flower-shaped cookies with a tag for "how does your garden grow?"

I don't know if you want to make your guests chose between eating fat or lean but you could have a crudite platter with a tag saying "Jack Sprat could eat no fat" next to a cheese dip (or something else fatty) with a tag saying "His wife could eat no lean"

  • Oh my goodness - Isgarver - LOVE your ideas. maybe you could just come and plan the whole thing? what if i say pretty please? :)

Ha, I think most people daydream about sex or winning the lotto.  I daydream about the next party I'm throwing and you gave me a new theme to chew on for awhile.

Actually, a trick that might help is to find a website that lists a lot of nursery rhymes and click through to see if anything reminds you of food or could be applied to a menu item you want.

    Good luck!

Thanks chica! Is it weird that i usually don't even pay attention to who's actually typing, but since I've recognized your username now - I feel like you're my first official nest friend? :)

Nope, not weird.  That'll happen more and more as you start to notice the screen names and who you're "conversing" with.  There are a few regs on this board, TarHeels, 6fsn and a few others.  Some of the boards are full of nest friends!  If that's weird, we're all weird.

  • if you're all weird - i found the right board! ;)

  • I'm planning a similar shower myself in mid-November. This is what I'm doing... got a little bit of help from MarthaStewart.com but then came up with some others...

    Little Boy Blueberry scones

Goldilox tea sandwiches (smoked salmon and an herbed cream cheese)

Humpy Dumpty Egg Salad tea sandwiches (herbed egg salad on bread)

This Little Piggy Ham tea sandwiches (I think ham would be eaten more than roast beef)

Mary Quite Contrary Garden vegetables with

    Jack Horner's Humus

    Peter Peter (savory) Pumpkin dip

    Three Blind Mice cheese plate

    Baker's Man Cupcakes

I plan on having bottles of flavored italian soda  but then also a pretty glass beverage dispenser with water with lemon and cucumber slices (it just looks pretty and tastes better than plain water) with a sign that says "jack and jill's pail of water"

Hope that helps!! And let me know if you come up with any more ideas!! :)
