My mums already look sick...

I was super excited and went out and bought some mums about two weeks ago and they already look sick and kind of wilted despite the soil still being wet from watering them frequently.  I thought they were supposed to be super easy to maintain.  Clearly, I'm no green thumb.

They get the morning sun at the front of our house and I keep them watered but they still look wilted and some of the flowers have died.  It's still 80-85 degrees here.  Is it just too hot?

Anyone have any ideas on how I can "save" them?

  • For starters, water them when they need it. They may be rotting from being too wet.

  • Ok, perhaps that's a good start.  The instructions say not to let them become dry and perhaps I have been overwatering them.

  • They're drowning.

Yeah, it's a fine line sometimes. It is true that you shouldn't let them become dessicated, but you may be overdoing it. Also, make sure you only water the soil, not the foliage. Water sits on mum flowers for a long time (because of their shape) and that can rot the blossom, so don't water the foliage.
