Spinning

Have you done it?

I'm thinking of taking a class in the morning but I'm not sure if it's worth the soreness I keep reading about.

Any and all tips and advice welcome.

Re: Spinning

  • I've been to a couple classes.  I think they are fun, but I would definitely recommend getting there early so that you can get your bike set up properly instead of struggling with the settings during the class.

Definitely take water and maybe a small towel.  It is a great workout though.

  • I've taken a couple of spin classes, and the soreness wasn't too bad. It was mostly in my butt from the seat, but it wasn't anything that kept me from going back two days later. The only advice I have is to have your instructor help you set up your bike. I had no idea how I was supposed to be positioned my first time, and it could've been bad had I not asked for help.
  • I've gone to a few classes before.  I really liked it.  It can be pretty intense, but its fun and a great workout.

I agree with PP.  Get there early so you can set up the bike to your liking.  Water and a small towel are also great suggestions.

  • I like Spin.  I'm actually going to my first post-preg Spin class tonight.  Get there a little early so the instructor can help you set up your bike so you don't mess up your knees.  Water and a towel are great suggestions.  Don't feel like you have to keep up with everyone at first, it can be tough!  My lady bits are sore for the first few times whenever I haven't gone for awhile (so I'm sure I'll be sore this week :/).
I don't want to be on MSNBC, yo.
  • I love spinning and need to start doing so again now that the m/s is wearing off.

For me, in the beginning, soreness was a major factor - in the saddle and I looked forward to getting off the saddle for respite. This will fade; and will fade even faster if your bike is properly set up for you.

As PP have suggested; get there early and have the instructor help you set up your bike for you, bring water, and a small towel. You WILL get sweaty and it is a fabulous work out.

  • I love spin classes.  See if there are padded covers available to go over the seat.  It can help mitigate soreness.
  • Thanks guys!  I think I'll give it a shot.

  • I love spinning!

It's an awesome workout and time passes really quickly while you're doing it (for me). The soreness is rough for a few days but it won't last.

  • I took spinning as a class my sophomore year for a semester. It's a great workout. I had one of those foam seat covers that I brought with me because we were on the bike for an hour every class. Make sure you adjust your seat correctly and just be aware of how much resistance you are adding and you should be fine!
  •  I did and loved it, it was so much fun. But I did feel like I could barely walk afterwards.  Just make sure to stretch it out, maybe take a warm bath at night, but I loved it and plan on doing it again

  • OK, so I went.  I don't get why everyone loves it though.  I can push myself just as hard listening to music that I actually like.  Maybe I'm just a loner.  I'm thinking of giving it another shot next week, but we'll see.

Some people need a little extra motivation. Plus different instructors = different music. Not all classes are created equal. I've had instructors that were very laid back and the work-out wasn't as challenging and I've some that are hard-core kick ass and really challenge me to take it to the next level.

Try a different instructor if the one last night wasn't your cup of tea.

I agree with KCD.  Try a different instructor next time.  You may like that class better.
