Would you sell your dress?

I'm taking a break from homework and started looking through the other boards. I can't believe how many wedding dresses are for sale on the trash to treasure board. Maybe I'm a sentimental idiot, but I just got mine back from the cleaners last week, and I can't imagine selling it.

Re: Would you sell your dress?

  • I'm another sentimental fool...DH is even worse though-he didn't want me to even wear my shoes again

  • I also do not plan on selling my dress.  If DH and I have children I would like the opportunity to pass it down to my daughter if she wanted it.

  • I'd never be able to sell mine either.  I haven't even taken it to the cleaners yet though. I need to do that.  lol

  • I don't think I could sell mine...unless something happened you know wouldn't want to hang on to then. I haven't done anything with it yet it's just hanging around in the spare room closet taking up space, I cant bring myself to pay more then I paid for the dang dress to have boxed up at the cleaner though.

  • When I took it to be cleaned, the woman kept pushing the keepsake box (another $40 over the $95 cleaning fee). I told her I'd like to try it on at each anniversary to see how I don't fit in it, no box necessary. It's the prettiest dress I've ever owned, I waited too damn long to own it - let alone walk down the aisle in it - and unless something extreme happens and the d word occurs, I plan to keep it.
  • I could sell mine (emotionally) - I know I'm never going to use it again, and if we have a daughter she'll probably have her own style, or would be a different size or shape. But I'd be annoyed at how much less I'd get for it than I paid - I don't want to sell it for ~$200 when I paid around $1000 for it!

I might keep it for a daughter to play dress-up in though!

This is me, mine is still filthy in a closet.

  • I am actually planning on selling mine.  I wasnt in love with it and I think that if someone else can get use out it I would rather that than have it sitting in my closet.

That being said its just hanging on the door to my closet, still filthy..lol

Oh good I don't feel so bad now. But I'm in the same boat. Although I do debate donating it to the breast cancer charity.

  • yeah, mine is still dirty in the closet too.  I've been trying to sell it, and I figure if someone is willing to spend that much on it (that I'm offering) then I'll sell it.  Since that's so unlikely, it's probably mine forever.  :P

I love the idea of my little girl (or boy for that matter) playing dress up in it someday.

  • Like pp mine is in the closet and still needs to be cleaner. DH wants me to get rid of it because he hates clutter. I bought it used (at Antique Fair) at a fantastic price (150). So if they had not been willing to sell I would not have had such a beautiful dress. I would love to loan it to someone I know who would want to wear it.

This, though mine is likely worth much less.  And, it's still dirty in the closet.

  • I'm late on this one, but mine is still hanging dirty in the closet too.

I briefly thought about selling it and even posted it on CL and got a decent offer, but Jason got really upset about it and said I should keep it and that it would be disrespectful to my Dad (who paid for my dress) if I sold it...so I'll keep it.  I am glad he didn't let me sell it though because I tried it on a couple months ago and it was so fun to relive that 'bride' feeling.  I think I'll always hold on it, even if it remains hanging in a closet for the rest of my life.  It's a generic Davids Bridal dress, but it's 'my' dress.

  • I totally would!  I'm agree with Kenna.  I'm never going to wear it again, and I am sure my future daughters will want their own dress.  Sitting in a closet is of no benefit.  Unfortunately, mine was drastically altered so it wouldn't bring much $.
