Uninstalling programs question

My laptop has reached the end of the Internet!  So, if I want to go on, it is telling me that I have to "free up saome space" (I have 3KB of free space).  When I bought this laptop, it was to be used for my business only but you now how that goes.

So, I have removed a few smaller programs but nothing has changed as far as free space goes.  When I try to remove a large program (ie. Photoshop) it says:

Unable to locate/process internal binary resource.  Contact your software vendor.
What the What??

I have another large (183KB) program and the message I get when trying to uninstall is:

Out of disk space--Volume: 'C'; required space:--480KB; available space:0KB.  Free some disk space and retry.
DUH! I AM trying!

Can anyone tell me what all this means?  How do I get this stuff off and free up some space?  It is so bad that when I DO try to go to an unfamiliar website, it can't fully load.

TIA!

Re: Uninstalling programs question

  • Ouch only 3Kb. That is super small... same with 183Kb. Do you have any pictures/downloads? I would look for items that end in Mb or Gb instead. You will get more bang for your buck.

  • Start by emptying your recycle bin to permanently delete things you know you don't want.

If you ran out of space on your hard drive, chances are you will need to delete other types of files, not just programs. Do you have a lot of digital pics that are very high resolution? That eats up a lot of space quickly without you realizing it.

I would also clear your internet browser's cache, cookies, and browsing history in case that is the problem (actually, I would probably try this step first, if the only problem you have is loading web pages. If you can't, say, download an attachment because you don't have enough disk space, then the rest of these suggestions also applies).

  • You need a certain amount of space free on your computer to do anything, including remove programs. Like PP said, make sure to empty your recycle bin, many people forget about this and it has GB worth of data inside.

  • Sorry so late to say thanks for the help!  I haven't actually finished the project yet so can't say how I am yet.  But thanks, again for the suggestions. Smile
