PIP: Cake

Let's see your cake. Since no one wants to change anything about our weddings, just tell us why it was fabulous. Wink

Re: PIP: Cake

  • I loved my cake, it was exactly what I wanted.  Also, my aunt made it for me as a gift, so it was free.  :)  For some reason, the green photographed more olive, when it really was more of a clover green like the bridesmaid dresses.

  • Our cake had 3 different flavors: chocolate with chocolate mousse, white with vanilla-almond filling, and buttercake with strawberry filling (think strawberry shortcake). I liked to call it a neapolitan cake. I'm still kicking myself for not eating a piece. Crying

This is Robin's groom's table with mini cheesecakes. They had already been attacked when this pic was taken. It was baseball themed (obvs), so the iron baskets had peanuts and cracker jacks.

  • My cake was totally delicious, but the swirls were kind of ugly. They weren't exactly what I pictured. And the frilly lace crap underneath was NOT ok.... talk about 80's style...

It was yummy though, so I guess that makes the ugly swirls ok.

Honestly? I wasn't too picky on the cake.It was included in the package for our reception and so I wasn't going to get crazy about it. I gave him the decorator the topper and told him to mirror that general look and that was pretty much it. I also said that I didn't want any flowers, and this is what he came up with. I loved it and thought it was perfect in the end! I also kinda love the fact that it didn't look too perfect, more natural. The flavors were chocolate and vanilla marble w/vanilla bean buttercream filling and vanilla bean with white chocolate raspberry filling. Heavenly. I

  • Our cake was okay - not like what I pictures or the inspiration picture I showed the baker, but it did the job.  Again - my photog didn't get any good photos of the cake itself.

  • We did cupcakes, and I loved the way they came out.  The display was great, just want we wanted, and the cupcakes were delicious.  I think some were vanilla and some were chocolate, and the icing was either vanilla or mocha.  They were YUM.

This isn't the best pic, but I'm too lazy to go digging for others....

  • Whatever, I would TOTALLY change my cake. Guy's aunt offered to make our cake as a gift and I let her. I really should have hired a professional. It tasted good, but it didn't look anything like my inspiration pic to begin with, AND she dropped it on the way in so the whole back of the cake was caved in. It looked like sh!t.

This is what it was supposed to look like (with all purple butterflies):

  • Our cake was ok -- we really didn't care who made it, so we just went with the caterer who came with the venue.  In the end, we were content in our decision.  I just wish our cake had a little more UMPH to it, but I can say that about everything else regarding our wedding as well...

  • Our cake came with our venue package. We went to the bakery and were told here were the cakes we could pick from and we got to taste all the cakes and fillings. We weren't too picky about the cake either so we found one we could agree upon and made some changes (buttercream roses every other layer and alternating square and circle shaped layers). half the layers were devil's food cake and the others were vanilla bean, the filling in all of them was raspberry mousse and chocolate ganache. So yummy and still super good when we thawed the top layer last year and ate it. I also loved our cake topper which sits in a little stand with our names and wedding date on it.

The only thing I would have done differently with our cake was eat more of it!

  • I liked our cake.  She pretty much followed the picture I gave her perfectly.  But I'm not sure I'd do the same thing now.  I don't know what I would do now, but I don't think that would be it.  I like the the stripes and the lack of flowers and a topper, but now I'm just kind of eh about the cake.

Maybe it's because I'm more into pastries and such now, but it actually makes me sick to think how much we paid for that cake, knowing that I literally could make that exact cake now.  She was a decent price, but still.  I think I'd have much higher expectations now.

  • I really liked our cake. It was also delicious! We had a marble cake, injected with Grand Marnier and a raspberry filler :) However, the room got so hot that it started to lean and we had to cut the cake early. I thought the result was beautiful though. If I did anything different, I may have just taken the ribbons off:

And I really loved the cake topper!

I thought it was very "us," however, I think the groom looks like Ben Savage, lol

I loved our cake- ours was 2 tier lemon cake with raspberry filling with buttercream. We had table cakes and they were white cake, white icing (old fashioned wedding cake), white with raspberry, chocolate with Makers Mark creme, swirl with bravarian cream, and they were very yummy. We still get raves on our cakes!

  • My cake is the one thing that I DO want to change!! Stick out tongue

It was (sorta) what we wanted, but the baker didn't quite get our vision and I think she kinda half-assed it because it was cupcakes and not a "real" cake.

I'm copying the rest of this post from the first "what would you change post" because I'm being lazy today.

We didn't want it to look like a stand of cupcakes. We wanted it taller and more visually like a stacked cake. It ended up looking pretty sad. Plus she talked us down from 250 cupcakes to 150 cupcakes....and didn't even put all 150 on the damn table! There were still 3 trays of cupcakes in the kitchen.

    image

Oh! And, there was supposed to be ribbon and/or leaves around the base of the stand. And if I knew she was going to put the cutting tier on a round cake cardboard I would have provided my own damn crystal platter.

On the bright side it was absolutely delicious and everyone thought the gumpaste lilies were the schizz.

ETA: Cupcake flavors were chocolate or caramel. Num yummy. our top tier was chocolate cake with white butter cream icing and peanut butter icing inside.
