I haven't posted but I have been lurking for a very long time on all boards. I hope this is posted in the right board. We are selling our home in Massachusetts and relocating to Florida's West Coast. So I am looking to find the best way to move our stuff there, Most of our furniture is staying here , although we have quite a few boxes and three motorcycles to move. Any ideas??? Self move, Pods, or moving company? Also we don't have a place to live when we get there so stuff will go into storage and we will stay with friends until we purchase another home. What have you done????
Re: Moving
I don't know how much stuff you have, but if it's just boxes, you may be able to rent a truck and do it yourself. I moved 2 hours away and after 8 years of being in a home, I hired movers. It took 5 men, 5 hours to pack up mirrors and furniture. It took me about 4 weeks to put everything in about 60 boxes.
My husband wanted to "save" money by moving the boxes himself and packing all the odds and ends as opposed to having the movers pack up what was left that I didn't get to. BIG mistake. HUGE.
It took him going back and forth several times (each trip being 4 hours of driving plus another 2-3 packing/emptying) to finally empty the house. All the while, I was stuck unpacking boxes by myself. It was incredibly stressful.
We are in a rental for the next 4 months. We separated everything into what we would need for the fall as well as the necessary furniture. Movers unloaded that stuff into our rental and the rest into a storage unit.
When we move out of this rental it will only be 10 minutes away. ALL OF IT is going on a moving truck. It was expensive, but for the $1000 my husband "saved" by doing it on his own, it was not worth my stress nor all his time,
