Let's talk about vacations

We're planning our Death Valley/eastern Sierra trip and I'm getting sooooo excited!

So, what was the last vacation you took?

What will be the next one you take?

My favorite place on earth: The Amargosa Valley.

Re: Let's talk about vacations

  • Our last vacation was houseboating at Trinity Lake over Labor Day weekend.

I have no idea what our next one will be. We're moving H's brother to college this weekend, but that hardly counts. We're going to LA in October, so maybe that?

  • So, what was the last vacation you took?... Road trip to San Diego during last Christmas/NY holidays. It was my first time visiting southern CA. I enjoyed it and we had some yummy Korean food in LA.

What will be the next one you take?... Florida Keys and the lower Gulf coast, this autumn. It'll be DH's first visit to Key West.
  • So, what was the last vacation you took? Well, we planned a vacation with family to New England and the Maritimes for the beginning of August but we ended up unable to go. Prior to that, the last "trip" was well to Legoland in San Diego, which isn't far away enough for me to consider a trip. We went and came back in a few hours. Probably last year to Fort Bragg for our anniversary would be the last trip.

What will be the next one you take? I don't know. With me out of work we really don't have the $. DH is going to Vegas for a couple of days for his work/comedy. He's performing at the World Series of Comedy. I'm not going in case I get called for an interview. He's making it short anyway since he's just gotten over the pressure sore.
  • So, what was the last vacation you took? The last vacation for us was our wedding/honeymoon in Kauai 2.5 years ago.
What will be the next one you take? I'm trying to talk my parents into a big family vacation in Hawaii next summer to celebrate their 40th anniversary (it was originally their idea to do it this summer....but then we got pregnant....so I'm trying to convince them to do it next summer).  If that doesn't happen, it'll probably be Disneyland in a couple of years.

  • I kind of differentiate a true vacation from short little weekend trips. We've taken some of the latter in the last year or so - to Vegas, Yosemite, camping, Seattle, etc. But the last big vacation we had, when we truly got away for more than a couple of days, was our honeymoon almost two years ago. I wish we could take another real vacation soon but probably not.
  • Our last one was 3 days to Pismo without the kids. Last as a family was a road trip to Canada just over a year ago.

Next one will be Maui for 7 days without the kids next summer for our 10th anniversary.

Next family will be Disney in a year and a half to two years.

  • Last trip was Napa (last month) with DH but it was only over night, the last family trip we took was SLO in June.

We are going to Disneyland in a couple months and then we might be going to Rome in the spring and we are going to go to San Diego during my spring break.

  • Depending on what you define a vacation as, our last real trip was to Fort Bragg/Napa last year. Weekend in Three Rivers was the latest getaway.

We'll be spending a week in Death Valley/eastern Sierra/Mono Lake in November.

  • The last vacation we took was our annual gold prospecting trip.

Now our vacations will be our home.Big Smile

Actually, we had planned to go to Mexico in November but since we bought the house, that is not happening.

We do plan to continue with our annual gold prospecting trips.

  • Last trip was to Palm Springs two weeks ago for our Anniversary.  It was HOT, but very fun. next is a trip to Connecticut for a 50th anni. party for his Aunt, but IDK if that qualifies as "vacation" it's only a long weekend, and not really for relaxation. Don't know where our next one will be, but I'd like to go to Europe, or maybe Asia.. like Japan ! IDK I want to go EVERYWHERE. we have no specific plans yet though.

  • Apparently I'm still in only-go-on-vacations-when-there's-a-wedding mode.  The last trip we took was to Barbados for a wedding, which was fun.

We were supposed to be in Cabo right now, actually, with some friends but the flights were crazy both price-wise and schedule-wise so we didn't make it.

But the upside of not having gone to Cabo is that shortly after we would have bought plane tickets we got invited to a wedding in Brazil for next month!  It was super short notice but we've already got our visas, hotels, and flights taken care of--I'm so excited!

I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

Ooh, that sounds fun. A co-worker of mine went to a wedding in Brazil and had the most amazing time.

Yeah, the last time we went away for more than a few days somewhere in CA was the cruise to Alaska 3 years ago. That was not us alone, we were with IL. That's pretty much the only way we've been able to go for longer, further away trips, when they invite us and pay for most of it. That's how the trip this summer was going to be. I took a trip with my mom 2 years ago to Toronto and PEI. Probably the next trip I take will be with her to go back there and to Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. That will probably be in 2 years. DH doesn't really like to travel (esp. involving flying) now that he's in a wheelchair. We didn't go far for our HM, just to Tahoe.

  • Last vacation: Disneyland - we went for 2.25 days and then came home Friday late afternoon/early evening. Bummed that Fantasmic wasn't happening until Friday night (I didn't find this out until after DH got his days off from work).

Next vacation: Nothing anytime soon since I'll be starting fertility treatments in October. We'll definitely go back to Disneyland and for longer and perhaps incorporate Knott's. But this depends if we have a LO or not.
