Please help with Tree Peony

I'm in NJ and we've had the wettest summer ever.  This is our Tree Peony that we inherited when we bought the house.  It had one amazing flower this spring.  It looks pretty bad right now and I'm not sure if I should do anything with it.  I googled pruning/maintaining but what I read didn't really apply to a tree that looks like this.

It reminds me of the Charlie Brown Christmas Tree and just needs a little love to make it flourish!

Re: Please help with Tree Peony

  • It's fall. Fuhgettabout it.

It will look much better next year.

  • You can let it go one more spring to see if it will send out new shoots/gets bushier.  If you don't like it then, you can prune it.  OR you could prune it now - about 1/3 of the way down this year's growth.

     Up to you!
