I love bath/skin products, started a new skin care routine, and am always looking for new products to try, so answer me this - what is your skin care routine (methods and products) and what do you use in the shower?
First tell me your skin type (dry, oily, combo) and any problems, such as acne, blackheads, large pores, etc.
I have oily/combination skin - oily T-zone and cheeks, but I get very dry on my chin and around my eyes. I suffer from mild but persistent acne and have large pores only on my cheeks.
I just switched from using Clinique Acne Solutions 3-step system full-time to using every other day and in-between using my Clarisonic with Cetaphil. My moisturizer of choice is Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisturizer.
In shower, I use either Suave or Tresemme shampoo/conditioner for dyed hair and Crabtree and Evelyn Summer Hill or Philosophy Unconditional Love for a body wash.
Re: What Skin/Bath Products Do You Use?
I am pretty boring with what I use... I'm more of the "if it's cheap it works" type of person.
I usually have acne. I get the majority of it along my chin line. I've usually used topical prescriptions from my dr. to help, but since I've been pregnant I haven't been able to use them. My face routine is that I use the St. Ives Apricot Scrub in the shower and just use face soap at night to get my makeup off. I think the whole exfoliation of the apricot scrub really helps. My face has been fairly acne free lately - but I chalk it up to hormones and expect my pizza face to return after the baby is born.
For shampoo and conditioner I use the Suave Professionals - I think it's like some breakage defense or something. It gets my hair clean :-) My hair is pretty fragile as it is, and breaks easily. But I haven't noticed much of a difference in my hair with using the more expensive stuff. They usually just leave my hair feeling greasy.
And then for body wash I use Bath and Body Works. My favorite scent right now is Secret Wonderland!! I'm also the type of person who has to continue my BBW scent after the shower - and have to use the same Secret Wonderland lotion and then body spray. Can't be mixing different smells haha!
I am not very into this stuff....
But though I would put in my two cents.
My skin is fairly 'normal', and I get the occasional zit on my chin, but nothing major. I guess that is one of the good things about getting older?
For my face I use a dove gentile exfoliator (sp?), and have done for many years. My facecream changes with the seasons, and at the moment its boring ol' nivea.
For bodywash I just use whatever DH buys from Go-lo!! Naughty me!!
My hair shampoo and conditioner are sulphate free to keep my hair from fading too quickly. I can't remember the brand and am too lazy to get up and take a look. I think it's called Organics.
I was getting tiny red bumps around my chin way back when, and I was like wtf is this delayed adolescent skin bs??
My doc said she thought I was allergic to my face wash, and I should use Cetaphil...so I switched and haven't had an issue since! I use the generic Target brand cuz it's cheaper. And I use Neutrogena spf 30 sunscreen on my face and neck instead of moisturizer. The vitamins in the spf are moisture enough, so said my Dr.
At night, I wash with the same stuff, but use a creamy face lotion that makes my skin feel flippin so smooth it's ridic. It has grape seed in it. It's like Eminence organic skin care, I think...
I exfoliate with Bioelements micro-grains like 2-3 times a week (if I'm really good), and use Biore pore strips religiously. I feel verrrry lucky to have little to no skin issues ever, ever.
I swear the Cetaphil was the key!
Oh such a loaded question for me since I work for a Dermatologist! :-) I get all the amazing samples and promo products from drug reps and when we go to conventions we come home with extra suitcases filled with full sizes of awesome brands. Clinque, Cetaphil, La Roche Posay, Neutrogena, LOreal, Olay, Proactiv, and more! So my bathroom and linen closet is filled with extras of more product than I will ever be able to use in lifetime or before they expire. I switch it up often (because I never have to actually BUY a product I just use what is in my reserves) Most reputable brands work for me as I have fairly normal skin. No oily or t-zone problems (However since my boss is the Head Clinical Derm at a major Hospital I also have a little of an unfair advantage when my skin is acting up she takes a quick look at it)
Honestly I think some of the drug store brands work as well if not better than some of the very high end brands. I like Cetaphil, Clinique (Facial bar) and Neutrogena acne washes as the best face washes.
I like to use Clinique daily moisturizer or Aveno calming face lotion- it has spf in it so I love it esp in the summer.
For Hair I use Kenra shampoos and conditioners for color treated hair. LOVE IT. A little pricey but worth it.
For Body wash I use any fun smelling seasonal bath and body works body wash or Philosophy body wash with a loofah mitt. (I know these are not particularly good for your skin and prob dry you out like crazy- i just like the fun smell and I don't have body acne so I don't need a body cleanser with salicylic acid)
:-) sorry so long- I just loveee anything to do with health, beauty and bath products!
Let's see here:
Shampoo: Currently L'Oreal EverStrong sulfate-free shampoo. I wash my hair at least once a day (gym, lab, whatever, etc) and it's the first thing I do when I hop in the shower.
Body Wash: I rotate my extensive collection of body washes, two in the shower to alternate during the week, and I switch at least one of them out depending on the season. Currently in rotation are Ulta Vanilla Cupcake and Body Shop Water Lily. On my long run days, I exfoliate the crap out of my skin- I don't want to think about the 8-12 miles of road/trail/sweat/other bodily excretions that I accumulated on my person. This weekend I used Moringa scrub from Body Shop.
Conditioner: During the week, I use L'Oreal EverStrong, and on my long run days when I'm in the shower for an extended time to scrub my skin and stretch out, I use Paul Mitchell Keratin Creme. It's kind of pricey ($10/3.4oz) but a little goes a long way, and I only use it once a week.
I should also mention, that no matter what I put for conditioner in my hair, I put it in and THEN use my body wash/shave. I have coarse thick hair so I like leaving it on for a bit longer than the average person to get it to soften up a bit.
Face Wash: The last thing I do in the shower once everything else is rinsed off. My daily face wash is Purity by Philosophy, but on my long run days I use something with a scrub factor in it (either Aromatherapy Associates Rose or Nivea for Men face scrub).
Shaving: OK, this is my little secret no more. I use Venus blades on a Mach3 power handle. Best.shave.EVER. I also ganked DH's Nivea shave cream and use that now instead of buying my own separate stuff. Shave like a man, feel like a woman.
Other stuff: I use Bath and Body Works peppermint foot scrub on my ridiculous callouses on my feet on long run days.
Out of shower: Secret motion activated antiperspirant/deodorant, Philosophy Hope oil free SPF face moisturizer, and Naked Body Butter to lotion up my leg over my tattoo (or if it will be exposed, I'll use Hope on it to protect it). I never wear makeup to the lab (serios, wtf is the point?), or perfume for that matter.
