Quint started pre-school about two weeks ago and I don't really know what pre-school etiquette is on sick/feeling better kids.
Friday the school called me to tell me he was sick and asked that I come get him. We went to the doctor at 2PM and he did not have a fever. He was wheezing really bad and the doctor decided that he had some sort of respiratory infection that had asthma like reactions so he was going to treat it as if it was asthma (although he said 10 times it wasn't asthma - he thinks it is the mix of a new country/environment, new school, new house, etc etc etc).
Quint did three breathing treatments while at the doctor's office then we were given the machine to take home with us. He slept horribly Friday night and we had to give him the breathing treatment at 11PM, 2AM, 6AM, and that was it. He took a nap from 11AM - 3PM and when he woke up, he was his old self. We gave him one breathing treatment before sleep last night but only because he was really congested.
Today it is like he was never ill. He's running around, hasn't coughed or wheezed once today and is acting like himself. We have been on the go all day and he is perfectly fine.
Do you think it is OK to take him back to school tomorrow or keep him home another day. He keeps saying, "Mommy, I like school. School tomorrow, OK?" so I know he wants to go back!
School policy on illness only states if they are contagious, they need a doctor's note to return to school or have been antibiotics for 48 hours. The doctor said he is not contagious nor is he on antibiotics. If he had a fever, he would have to wait 48 hours before returning. He never had a fever.
Opinions?
Re: Sick kid/Pre-School Question.
FRLCB I think I somehow managed to block you because I see you're the last poster on a lot of threads but don't actually see your answers. I am going to have to figure out how to unblock you!
There you are!
Eh, I never have much of use to say anyway
I wonder what you said to me to piss me off so badly I blocked you?
I think I made fun of you for liking Dixie Chicks. Or perhaps you confused me with Knitty!
I agree with fricb. I know our doctor's office says 48 hours clear from both ends for tummy/GI issues, and I've always worked on a 24-48 hour free and clear of fevers for going to play groups, etc.
