DIY house cleaners

Hi Ladies,

DH and I are trying our hand (that will hopefully last) and DIY cleaners and such. We just made our first batch of powder laundry detergent last week and love it, so far. Now, I want to make cleaners, soap, and dishwashing detergent so if you have a recipe for one you love, please pass it along.

I clean my kitchen counters, fridge, etc. with a half and half mix of vinegar and water. I've heard that some people add tea tree oil for more anti-bad stuff kick.

Vinegar can also be used as a fabric softener in your dryer. Just dampen a rag with it and toss it in with the rest of your load or pour it in the liquid fabric softener port of your washer.

We've been using vinegar for almost a year now as fabric softener. My mom told me about that forever ago and I finally came around to the idea.

Thanks for sharing your recipe--question: I noticed on the furniture polish you recommend a glass jar.  I guess a spray bottle wouldn't work because it would get clogged with oil?  Would like to try this but am having a hard time imagining the best vessel to hold the polish in.

I actually only make enough at a time to use once.  The one time I did have extra, I put it in a small pyrex dish with lid that we have.

If you want anti-bacterial with your vinegar/water cleaners, add hydrogen peroxide. It's affordable and odorless!
