I have a friend whose son is a Marine. He is going through a very nasty divorce right now and his mom is worried about his mental state; to the point of fearing he might be suicidal. She came to me asking who in the USMC she can go to, to ask for help.
I know in the USAF I'd send her to his First Shirt, but I know nothing about the USMC. Should I just direct her to the base chaplains? Are there any other non-religious options? She is very anti-religion and while I hope that wouldn't stop her from getting him the help he needs, I'd like to present her with some other options she might be more comfortable with.

Mental illness. Clearly the kid isn't getting help on his own, that's exactly why the mom is trying to get people to rally around him. Don't you guys have suicide awareness training in the Army?
Ummm yes we have suicide training in the Army. Thats why I said start with the Chaplain and then see where you are referred to from there.
