Movers

How do you find movers to load the truck on a Friday, sit on it until Monday, then drive it 4 hours to the destination?

I have a hard time wrapping my head around out of town moves.  This is probably going to cost a fortune, huh?

Re: Movers

  • I would look into getting a POD.
  • Well I was thinking just a U haul, park it outside of the house and then drive to the new one like last time.  But that doesn't come w/ movers.  I could do local movers at each place probably and DH could drive the truck and tow his car.

  • Our local moving company will do this for you. Check with some of the ones in your area especially the ones that are affiliated with cross-country brands because they are set up to deal with delayed moves better.
  • Something that my mother did on her last move (and I don't recommend this if you have a lot of expensive furniture that needs to be insured), but she rented a uhaul and had friends and family help her pack it and when she got to her new house she hired guys from the local unemployment office to help her unload it.  They were really nice guys and she got away pretty cheap that way as well.  Just an idea.

  • There are a lot of moving places that will hold on to your stuff and then do delivery on Monday.  I wanted delivery on Friday so they came and packed up the house on Thursday. It was an all day thing and I was pretty much told that it is impossible to pack the house, drive to the destination and then unload the truck. At a MINIMUM they wanted one day and I was told that if I did it on Friday, the earliest they would deliver is on Monday.
  • I called a few places here and decided to hire the labor to load the truck.  That's the worst part.
