Re: ~starlet~

  • She's going to be okay...they think she's in a good place and we have a million things to do to keep her healthy.  But it's all manageable and will keep her happy and comfortable.  I think she has at least 5 more years in her.

If you're interested, here's the entire list!

    1) She has a heart murmur but they don't think it's anything to worry about.

    2) She has an ear infection. Her ears were cleaned and we have medicine ointment to put in them 2x a day.  After that ointment is done, we have to give her drops for the rest of her life.  She has polyps in her ears that make her predisposed to getting infections.

    3) She was severely dehydrated due to her kidney disease.  (She probably fainted due to dehydration).  She has chronic kidney failure, which sounds bad but is manageable.  She has to stay on a special diet and we have to give her fluids once a week via a needle under her skin.  Learning how to do that Thursday and I'm nervous!

    4) She'll be on another medicine to keep her phosphorous...maybe phosphate? levels low for the rest of her life.

    5) We'll probably start giving her another medicine in a few weeks that will help improve her appetite and help her drink more.

  • i am glad she is okay (relatively speaking). i guess that's how it works as our pets get older. good luck with the sub q fluids. i'm sure you'll do fine. with all the tweaks she'll probably start perking up a little. keep me posted.

  • Butting in here because I was waiting on the report. You're a great kitty mama to do all that stuff. So many people would just give their cat to the shelter, which breaks my heart. It's awesome that you're willing to do that for your pet! I think you'll do great!

Thanks!  I can't imagine giving her up just because she has some health problems.  She's my baby, you know?

Living with her as also made me think that when it's time to adopt other cats, I'll only adopt adults or seniors. They need love too!
