New Tampa area ladies...

Can you please recommend your ob/gyn? Need to find a new one. Also, what hospital do they deliver at? And if applicable, is there is a reason you wanted to/want to deliver at a certain hospital?

I know nothing about this but would like to choose a doc that I will not have to change again once TTC. Thanks!

Also, if you have a primary care doc you love, tell me that too!

Re: New Tampa area ladies...

  • I go to Dr. Amy Solomon at Women's Care Tampa, it's off BBD in the USF area, across from the shopping center down there that has a Target. I like her but I have no clue which hospital she delivers at. I am totally clueless about all that and don't know which hospitals are considered good, so I'd be interested to hear.

  • My husband and I have friends that are both nurses who worked at St. Joes (and delivered their 3 kids there).  The husband now works elsewhere and the wife is a SAHM, but they said if they were going to do it again they'd probably go to St. Joes north, as they have friends that made the shift over there when it opened.  They loved St. Joes, but St. Joes North is newer and about equi-distant from our house.

I was checking their list of doctors that deliver at St. Joes North that take my insurance, and there weren't a lot of options - there were a lot more options for the original St. Joes.

  • Well, I can't really help because my doctor is in the St. Joe's building (Dr. Reichman) on MLK. The drive didn't bother me because I think she's an excellent doctor. I also delivered at St. Joe's and I have no complaints about the delivery or hospital or whatever. I thought the nurses were amazing.

My friend recently delivered at the new women's center at UCH and she loved it there. Another friend is an OB nurse there, and she really likes it. She says she likes the UCH center more than St. Joe's and she likes the nurses more, too. She's worked at both.

  • I just signed in for the first time in months and just thought to myself, "Oh!  I can answer that one!"  So, here goes:  I use the Woman's Group.  Dr. Sanchez delivered DD and I felt she did a fantastic job.  I will continue to use the Woman's Group as my basic GYN, but if I have another baby (which is a big IF!), I am hoping to deliver at Labor of Love.  That's a whole different discussion, though.

As far as hospitals go, I chose to deliver at UCH.  It has a lower C-section rate than St. Joe's, which was a factor in my decision, and I felt really comfortable in the facility. However, I know plenty of women who have had happy, healthy deliveries at St. Joe's, too.

Finally, for primary care, DH and I see Dr. Beach off of Amberly.  I've only been there a few times, so I don't have any strong opinions about him yet.  However, I can tell you he gets the job done and I've always been able to get in on short notice.  HTH!!

  • I also go to the woman's group. They have a newer office right off 41 just south of 54, but the BBD office is nice too.
