help dress me

In the past months of being a lady of leisure, i have completely turned into the person I swore I never would. I still have some weight around the middle from Thing 3 and none of my pre clothes are fitting right. I feel like I am so out of it when it comes to my own style. help dress me. I am going back to work part time but it's a casual office setting. So I need simple put together looks without breaking the bank. and jeans... ughh I need all new ones, recommend what you wear

thanks!

Re: help dress me

  • When I needed a ton of new clothes, I hit an Ann Taylor when they had their 50% off sale prices, and then opened an AT card.  A lot of their t-shirts are $20, plus 50% off plus whatever the deal is for opening the card.

My jeans come from GAP and the Loft.  I think the Gap also has 50% off stuff right now, and then an additional 30% off.

I haven't had children, but I definitely have a spare tire,  I describe my body type as those kiddie swimsuits with the rubber tire around the middle.

  • Honestly, I bought 2 pairs of cheapie but nice looking jeans at Target for my 'in between' weight. There was a few months where I couldn't get into my old ones but I didn't want to spend a ton on new jeans. Go to Ross or Tj Maxx and find a few nice open drapey cardigans, too.

  • i hit up the banana and j crew outlets recently to get some work-appropriate clothes.  i grabbed a pair of cropped black work pants, an off-white short sleeve sweater, a grey short sleeved sweater, a black and white marbled crew neck, and some plain tissue tees.  you can always scour the racks at marshalls for some of the plain old staples, like black pants or skirts.

i still had a few pants/skirts and cardigans that fit.  i figured with these i can mix and match my way through fall and hopefully back into my pre-baby clothes (they fit, just not well.... hello, muffin tops)

jeans have always been my nemesis.  i now swear by lucky brand because i have some junk in my trunk and a smaller waist; their cut fits me well and doesn't leave a muffin top or a gap in the back of my pants.  thank goodness they have an outlet and you can sometimes score a pair at marshalls or tj maxx.

    good luck!

  • ditto BR and JCrew outlets and Marshalls. I think you should look for silk sleeveless blouses that don't require tucking in, cotton chinos and/or trouser cut jeans and cardigans.
  • All good recs above. Also, check out NY&C. I was able to find some loose fitting clothing (with elastic waistbands) for work while I was still hiding being KU at work. They're also constantly offering 40%, etc.

  • thanks girls! i just happen to be near Old Navy today and was surprised I liked the fit of the sweetheart jeans, they come up higher so it goes over the chunk instead of pushing it upward. also grabbed a flowy cardigan as LD suggested and a few tunics to go with some flat boots. We hope to hit the outlets this weekend in DE so i will be sure to check out the places suggested

  • Just an FYI - JCrew outlet does not sell the same stuff you get at their regular stores. They make items specifically for their outlets. The quality is not good. I live at JCrew in Glen Mills - they have great people there that can help you put together outfits. You might pay a little more but the stuff will last and will be timeless.
