Best cruise ship out of Galveston?

We have never been on a cruise and a friend said it would be the best deal for us since we don't drink. Also, I would like to stay out of Mexico so if you have any recs on places to visit I would appreciate it!

Re: Best cruise ship out of Galveston?

  • I would say Crown Princess or Mariner of the Seas.

And I would check out this website, they have great deals a lot. I also "liked" them on FB and they post amazing prices, too.

  • Starting in Mid November, the newest of the Carnival Cruise Ships will be sailing out of Galveston, Magic.  I will be cruising on it in October out of Barcelona as will my parents.  But they will be doing the Trans Atlantic crossing from Barcelona back to Galveston.   I believe that the Magic will be doing some Mexico routes, but also some Bahamas/Freeport as well.

ETA: Princess will not be here basically until 2013

  • My parents take 2+ cruises a year and their favorite out of Galveston is Royal Caribbean.
  • we've only done one and it was a royal caribbean out of galveston to cozumel and costa maya. we're not big drinkers/partiers either and it was perfect for us.

if you don't want to do mexico, you'll need to plan on at least a 5-7 day cruise. it takes a full day "at sea" to get anywhere from galveston, and the caribbean is a farther treck. there are some western caribbean cruises that will go to belize and honduras, but i'm pretty sure there'll be at least 1 mexico stop too.

    good luck! sounds like fun!

  • Thank you all for your recs! This is all pretty confusing especially when you start looking at the rooms and prices but it seems a lot cheaper than the 3K resort we went to last time. And we probably won't be going until February 2013 (our 5 year anniversary) so we have some time to plan everything. And thank you RP, I was actually looking at that same site!

I would highly recommend just getting a cheap inside room. Reason being you are hardly ever in your room when you are awake, so there is no reason to spend double or triple on a balcony.
