PETA and porn?

interesting article... my favorite quote:

People for the ethical treatment of women will likely complain. PETA might be smarter to stick with animals. Maybe videos of spawning salmon. Or cows with exceptionally large udders.

(I'm not trying to start a debate about PETA and eating animals, I just thought their idea that porn would be a good way to spread their message is hysterical)

Re: PETA and porn?

  • It's weird that PETA has used half naked and totally naked women in their protests in the past, but the porn thing makes no sense.  I just hope the LaRouche people don't get the same idea Ick!

  • I do not get this.  I was a vegetarian for a very long time, try to be local/organic/free range.  Don't wear fur.  But, this is crazy and makes no sense.

  • How does this make any sense? I'm so confused by all of this. I didn't read the whole article, but are they using animal porn?

lol no, they're using people porn - the comment I posted was the author joking that they should stick with animals instead.  I still don't know how this works, maybe just having porn and then gory animal images?  so confusing...

Wouldn't this turn off the viewer to porn more than eating animals, since you're associating porn with gory animal images?

OMG!  maybe they're trying to ruin the porn industry!

    PETA's bringing down porn! Surprise

  • So the time-crunched amongst you don't have to read the full article:

"I have to hand it to the PETA crew for the attention-grabbing cleverness they employ in spreading their message. Perky PETA females cheerfully don bikinis made of lettuce leaves or dispense with clothes altogether. They know nothing draws a crowd more easily than a display of skin. That would explain why the organization has announced plans to create a PETA porn site ? peta.xxx ? with graphic videos and photographs interspersed with animal rights propaganda."

I get that PETA thinks animals are equal to humans....so, um, if they're usually so militant about any animal exploitation, shouldn't they at least apply that to humans, then, too? As in stop exploiting women by displaying their mostly naked bodies as sexual objects everwhere (or completely naked and inimate as in porn)?! I will NEVER understand PETA. As an organization, they always strike me as ridiculous. I'm very against animal cruelty, but there is a whole circle of life thing with a food chain, etc and they seem to go to such a stupid extreme.
