Our dog has cancer :-(

I found a lump on our girl's leg this afternoon so I took her into the vet.  She's 11 and I don't like waiting on things like this.  Well the vet took some cells out and looked at them and it's a tumor. :-(  The good news is that it's still small and it's in a good spot.  But, we don't know if it's spread inside.

This is K's dog and I'm really dreading telling her tonight.  I won't get home from work until after 11 so I have some time to think about this.  Uck.  I mean she's a happy and healthy dog by all standards so hopefully we'll just remove this and be done.  But....we just don't need this stress.  I don't know if K can take one more thing.

And she was so sweet earlier...she brought me home flowers and was all happy about me getting a job.  Now the next time I see her I have to tell her about the dog.

  • I'm sorry to hear that.

If it makes you feel any better, the sheltie we had growing up got cancer and one doggie masectomy...and lived 5 more years! One of my friend's has a husky who has been living iwth cancer for about 3 (he's 15).

  • I'm so sorry to hear that. It is really good you took her immediately, though. My thoughts are with you and K and your dog.

  • Oh no! Well hopefully with it just being on her leg it will be easy to remove.  My mom's husky had cancer at one point in her abdomen.  She was already getting up in age when this happened, and she made a full recovery.  She went on to live well into her golden years :-)
