Since this board is lame, here's a post....DH vent

Anyone else's husband completely wasteful and non-energy efficient like mine? He drives me nuts. If he's making a sandwich and it requires a food item from the fridge, he'll leave the fridge door wide open while he's slowly making his sandwich.

He will also start the shower and leave it running for a good 5 to 10 minutes before getting in. He'll seriously start the shower and then shave his entire face while leaving the water running.

Finally, we live in a condo and the dumpster is a little ways away so we'll put our trash bags on our balcony for a day or so before walking them out. He'll open the door to the balcony and leave it wide open (while the A/C or heat is running) while he takes 10 minutes to walk the trash to the dumpster. It drives me effing bonkers.

  • ::raises hand.  both of them.  extremely high.::

I understand that he has bigger hands than me, but he does not need 4 paper towels to dry his hands.  There is a perfectly good towel, 2 of them in fact, hanging right under the sink.

The amount of toothpaste he puts on his toothbrush is amazing.  He says he has a bigger mouth than me.

Mine seems to be more of a product waster than an energy waster.

Oh yes, this reminds me. I'm sure I don't even need to mention the fact that he leaves the water running while brushing his teeth. You could have already guessed that he does.

  • Mine constantly leaves the lights on in multiple rooms he is not using.  he also will come to watch TV and leave his xbox game paused instead of turning it off.
  • *sigh*  I think we all may share a husband. Things that have really been ticking me off recently? The fact that every time I come home late and he's made a sandwich for lunch or dinner, all of the ingredients to make said sandwich are still setting out on the counter. Bread, meat, cheese, mustard, pickles, whatever...and this could be hours later! Not to mention when he eats some of the chips or pretzels in the house he leaves the bag wide open instead of rolling it closed. Guess who gets to eat stale chips? Yep, that'd be me. He sure doesn't seem to mind. Oh, and whne he gets off work he changes clothes. Everything ends up in the hamper except for his socks. Every.single.time. There are about three pair randomly strewn across the living room. Give me a break!!!

  • DH has a horrible habit of going out into the garage, leaving the garage door open for however long he's out there and then a fly will come in and we'll have to deal with the fly going all around the house.

I keep telling him we don't live in a barn and to close the door.

  • Yes! Although he has improved since first moving in together. The town he is from has it's own electric company and it's about 1/4 what everyone else is Syracuse pays. This means people leave EVERYTHING on. He loves to leave the fridge open, use multiple paper towels, AC on all the time, open windows when the AC or heat is on, throws recyclable stuff in the trash which I then pick out. He knows I do this yet continues. He said we should get a container for them in our kitchen, but all he has to do is open the garage and toss since the bin is right next to the stairs. He also puts dirty dishes on the side of the sink where clean dishes are drying. Guess it's a guy thing.

  • Sadly you have somewhat described me. My poor dh.
  • My DH leaves lights on all the time.  It will be a perfectly sunny day and he has the living room and kitchen lights on.  It makes no difference because we get lots of sun in the rooms.  He leaves the garage lights on all day and night.  He leaves the dryer door open so that light (which has burnt out) is on all day.  He either can't tell or is completely clueless that there is a pattern to loading the dishwasher and will run it when it's half empty - it looks full because he has stuff everywhere but if I rearranged everything it would be about half full.

He also can put some of his clothes in the hamper and the rest are on the floor next to the hamper.

He is also a huge product waster.  whenever he uses bread or burger/hot dog rolls he never closes the bag back up with the twist tie then b!tches because they get stale quickly.  Don't get me started on how much laundry detergent he uses.

  • Lol Lockitup!

Nick leaves the lights on all over the place. It's so annoying. I always say "Campbell, daddy thinks we're made of money and leaves lights on - don't learn from him" and Nick says, "ooops, sorry" but doesn't get any better! He'll leave the light on in the bathroom and shut the door. Really?! Argh, he also leaves the grill utensils outside overnight so the bbq sauce gets caked on!

Oh and he puts his clothes hanging off the hamper or right in front of it. So helpful. He however, is not a waster when it comes to paper towels or other products - I'd say he's too conservative when it comes to that!

Now, I do leave the water running while brushing my teeth, I can't help it, I have tried to turn it off and I just can't do it. Nick gets on me about that. He tells Campbell not to follow my example - lol. I do know he's right.

  • In my defense

I leave lights on because a house with only one room of lights on is creepy, lights and blankets ward off ghosts (don't ya' know?)

I am going right back to the fridge and it's a pain to reopen the door.

I was thinking the same thing. I'm trying to be better... but it's so hard to break the habit.

  • My husband is too cheap and energy efficient to do these things. I am normally pretty good about things but I do get yelled at every once in a while for leaving the back door open a second too long when bringing stuff in.
