Pan Am (spoilers) any one watching?
I turned it on about 10 min late or so -- therefore I feel slightly confused with characters unless that's just the style of set up they're using.
I'm really hoping this will be a good series because I'm enjoying it and it seems like it has amazing potential.
Re: Pan Am (spoilers) any one watching?
it seems really good.
a good mix of drama with a little bit of comedy.
i think i'll watch for a couple more episodes. hopefully it won't disappoint.
I really liked it!
One question though...I know that Kate took Bridget's place, but who were those guys?
***Sept 2013 Jan. Siggy Challange - Bouquet Inspiration!***
This was my exact thought...I LOVE Chase on AW and would hate to see him go. The show looks good so far.
I liked seeing it for the fashion and things from that era, but I didn't love it. I didn't like the flashing back and forth and I didn't get what those guys were having the 1 stewardess do. It seemed shady but I didn't really get who they were. There are a ton of characters too, so I'm sure it'll take a while to get everyone straight.
I'll probably give it another episode or two but I don't usually like dramas so we'll see.
They're CIA. After Bridget left Kate in that cafe with the guy, he asked her what she did and she asked him what he did. His reply was "I work for the US government... Intelligence" or something like that. Then when she met the guy in the hotel, he admitted they were testing her for the real thing and that he would be her London contact.
They're using the girls to do little missions because no one suspects them.
I really liked it. I'll keep it around for a bit. I want to know what happened to Bridget. That was her looking in the window at the end, right?

I loved it! And I just happened to watch a show on the travel channel right after about the stewardesses during that time and how prestigious of a job it was, etc.
Did anyone else think the one sister chick that was brand new looks very similar to Jamie Presley? I thought it was her at first glance. That chick is only 21 and from Australia in real life.
Other than being set in the same time period, are they even similar? I've never watched Mad Men. It's in my Instant but I just haven't gotten around to it.
It just seems like it's similar to 'I love Law & Order, but CSI is just a cheap ripoff" or any other combo of shows in similar genres. ER/HawthoRne/Grey's or Bones/Castle
I agree there might be some inspiration from Mad Men, but it was very unique. First - it is the woman's perspective. I am intrigued enough to watch it again next week.
okay, I was too lazy to rewind so I am glad that I am not going crazy when I noticed this also!
and I also agree that it has a glossy finish - it looks like a magazine.
I watched it and definetly enjoyed it. It felt fresh to me b/c it seemed so different than so many other current major network shows.
I too though am a little confused by the whole CIA piece of it...
Will definetly watch again.
I haven't watched it yet, but regarding the smoking, I remember reading that they originally had it much more accurate, but ABC is owned by Disney and Disney put their foot down on that. I'm looking forward to watching this tonight.

I wasn't that impressed. Yeah, I liked the clothes, hair/makeup stuff, but I can see that in any old movie. The whole CIA/stewardess plot didn't do anything for me.
Of the new shows I've watched so far this season, this is one I probably won't continue to watch. Too much hype that did not deliver.
I noticed the shorter hair too. And now that you mentioned it there was barely any smoking. I think Mad Men has that part spot on! But maybe network TV has different smoking rules.
i too love mad men
i agree with your reactions...the show seems low-budget and lacks the refinement of mad men. i mean, come on, how is christina going to have long hair in one scene and shorter hair in the next scene? no smoking?! the wife/flight attendant/husband scenario was weird.
that said, i admit that i didn't love mad men until its second season, so i may give pan am another try

It's the Mad Men for people who don't want to think too much when they watch TV. Mad Men for the masses, if you will. No grit. Too polished. Merely winks at the toxic underbelly of 1960's American life rather than intelligently dissects it.
It's clear some TV executive in LA saw the success of Mad Men and said "give me one of those." That's how the show feels.
All that said, it wasn't terrible. It wasn't great. But it wasn't terrible.
This-- I did not watch MM so I can't weigh in on that, but I thought this was 'fresh' It wasn't ground breaking amazing, but it wasn't bad. I will keep watching. I am intrigued by the CIA story line, but I agree with PP's that it is network TV and they really can't push the envelope that far...
We will see. I enjoyed overall.
I don't watch Mad Men either, though I really should. I'm all up in the 50s/60s nostalgia, so I was excited about Pan Am if only for that reason. I will keep watching, but did realize that because of network TV they a) have to dumb some things down b) keep the controversial stuff in check. I liked the CIA angle to it, and do think that it will end up a driving force in the plot line. I'll keep watching. I'm more apt to not watch a show at all vs. judge one by its first episode.
I like the co-pilot--he was on the Scrubs: Med School, and I thought he was cute there too.
The first guy was CIA. The second was MI6, the British intelligence agency.
I liked it, and I felt really bad for Colette. It sounds like she really didn't know the guy was married.
She just did her hair. When you do a style like that, it looks shorter.
Re: Christina Ricci's hair:
From http://www.ctv.ca/CTVNews/Entertainment/20110922/pan-am-not-mad-men-christina-ricci-110922/
Ricci's character in particular is an intriguing figure who will be revealed as the series evolves. As the rebellious Maggie, she's a whirlwind at home, an earthy bohemian who hangs with intellectuals in Greenwich Village.
"She's sort of hard to pin down," says Ricci, whose lengthy film career is dotted with TV guest appearances on "Saving Grace," "Grey's Anatomy" and "Ally McBeal."
"She's completely a different person when she's not being a flight attendant and as you see in the pilot when you first meet her she's just a completely different human being -- she's in this beatnik apartment, she's got long hair."
When Maggie is in the sky, she's the epitome of stewardess style.
"She's all of a sudden got her wig on, got her perfect hair, perfect stewardess uniform and she has also transformed her personality -- she's all of a sudden the perfect flight attendant," says Ricci, whose character is the purser of Pan Am's new luxury airliner, the Clipper Majestic.
