B&M Monday

My sinuses hate me.  And I've been up since 5:00 thanks to my cats.

Re: B&M Monday

  • I didn't sleep well all weekend, so I took Simply Sleep last night.  I slept very well, but I really didn't want to get up this morning.

I have jury duty starting next Monday.  In Denton County, you can do some questionnaire online (instead of on the summons).  One of the questions was:  Do you want to serve on the jury?  Well, I think you're screwed no matter which choice you make.  If you say no, you'll get picked.  If you say yes, you'll get picked.  I went ahead and said "yes" because I got picked last time because I was a teacher.  Apparently, teachers are considered desirable jurors, so much so that, when I served last time, four of the six jurors were teachers and the two others were public servants.

I've put no both times and I was not picked.  Everyone around me was though Big Smile

  • I passed this on my way to work... and the man was still on the highway when I passed it.  Ugh, so sad.

  • No B&M here. I had a great weekend, and Monday's off to a good start.

But because I read "A Stolen Life" (Jaycee Duggard's book) on Saturday night, I'll never let my children be alone ever for the rest of their lives.

How was that? I want to read it but I know that I will feel the same way afterwards.

It was incredible. Really really incredible. Definitely hard to read in places, but I really appreciate that she wrote it in the voice of the child, not in the voice of the rescued woman trying to recover her life. I also found her struggle with Stockholm Syndrome to be very interesting. She really worked to NOT trust those people, but in the end, if you have no one else for 18 years, you have to trust someone. It was worth reading, for me, to see her strength and generosity of spirit after the fact. She's really a miracle.

    I'd highly recommend reading it.

  • The Monday usual B&M!! I didn't want to get out of bed, I was a few minutes late for work!!

The story about the driver killed is very sad! I work for NTTA and hate it when bad things happen on tollroads!!!

I watched a good movie at Angelika last night, it's called Circumstance, if you are slightly interested in the daily lives and challenges young Iranians face you will find it interesting. Without giving away the story, parts of the movie that was about the underground parties was so nostalgic for me.

  • Tonight is my last 'free' night until Friday.
  • I am here, and I am sleepy.  Otherwise, no complaints.

Brianna, that is why if I ever have to stop on the side of a road, I don't think I will be able to get out of my car - it petrifies me just to think about it.

I think I had something to do this coming weekend, but I cannot, for the life of me, think of what it was, and I'm trying to make plans to do something else but just have this nagging feeling that I'm forgetting something...  So frustrating!

I had a tire blowout that landed me on the side of 360.  I called 911 to get a police escort off of the highway because of stories like that one!

I didn't know you could do that - I'm totally going to do that if I ever have the need!

  • What a sad story! It's so sad how often that really happens.

DH and I both had nights last night were we barely slept. We have no clue what was going on, but it was an emotional and busy weekend so maybe we just both had too much on our minds.

I finally made the decision to go to school. My ILs are upset cause it means they have to wait for grandkids. It was their biggest complaint yesterday when we told them..lol

  • Brianna - that is so sad.  :(  Thanks for the tip about calling 911, though.  Also, you can call the number on your tolltag, if you are on the tollway or the number on the back of your driver's license.

I don't know if you're actually allowed... but I wasn't going to chance it.  And the police officer was very nice about it.  Smile

  • Once I got my drivers license, my mom always said no matter what happens to your car NEVER get out on the hwy.  As long as the car is mobile drive it off to an access road.  She didn't care how much she had to pay to fix the car.  15 years later, that is still stuck in my head.

Stephie - my allergies are TERRIBLE this morning too.  I woke up this morning with a sore throat b/c I breathed through my mouth all night b/c my nose was stuffed up.  All morning my nose has been acting like a water faucet stuck to full blast.  Ugh.

Besides allergies and the Aggies loss, I have nothing to complain about.  Great weekend otherwise!

  • DH was given great tickets to MNF tonight. Awesome, right? My teacher emailed and said we have a quiz tonight and he has "a very special announcement" so he highly recommends we make plans to attend class tonight, which usually means attend...or else with this prof. Class is from 7-8:20, DH will be taking someone else to MNF.

I forgot my running clothes/shoes this morning. So now I have from 4p-7p free, so I guess I will eat dinner somewhere and get ahead on reading. I also ran out of vitamins Saturday night and forgot to get some yesterday. I am feeling it today. Today = blah.

    today = blah.

    THIS.

  • I'm suppose to take a test at 1pm for my Algebra class.  I didn't want to have to drive all the way to Commerce today so our professor let us find a school closer to take the test.  I called UTA Thursday and they said they have received everything but the passwords from my professor so I could go ahead and schedule my test.  I did and then called this morning to make sure they had gotten the password.  The girl on the phone today was so rude.  First she yelled at me for signing up without having confirmed everything was received.  I did that and HER BOSS is the one that told me to sign up.  She then tells me that they have no record of email or phone calls from my professor and that she can't let me take a test if they have nothing.  I said I was copied in on the original email and confirmed the email.  She said that the email address was correct but that she hadn't heard anything from my school.  I asked to talk to the lady I talked to last week and she is out until Thursday.  So annoyed.  I emailed my professor and asked her to contact them asap because I needed to take the test today.  I looked online to see if I could take it another time this week.  The only other times available are during a meeting at work we have to go to or during a dr appt I have to go to for the baby.  So annoyed right now and of course my professor isn't emailing me back.

It's also Monday and I stayed up too late studying for said test last night.  DH and I did have a much better weekend this weekend but we really need to figure out a way for him to deal with his work stress!

But because I read "A Stolen Life" (Jaycee Duggard's book) on Saturday night, I'll never let my children be alone ever for the rest of their lives.

I also read the book and saw her interview and I also think she's incredible.  The book was so hard to read, in some places I became almost ill.  I did find myself wanting her to fight harder but in reality, she did what she had to.  She survived and not only that is a beautiful person so in my mind, she did everything exactly right.

It is a reminder though that we have to prepare our children at an early age.  I would school Melodie from the time she was in kindergarten:  "What do you do if someone approaches you, what if they ask for directions, what if they try and grab you, etc."  We had a code word so that if a stranger told her they were coming to pick her up because I was in an accident or whatever, they had to know it.  Things like this.

Not that any of that would have mattered in Jaycee's case though.

  • I've been sooooo swamped at school I haven't checked in here in ages!

I really don't have any B&M's.  I had a great weekend, we're working on the house a lot, getting the 2 spare bedrooms set up so one can be a nice guest room, that one is almost done, and the other will be the nursery, it's almost ready to paint, and I have most of what I want all picked out.  I'm so excited.  Decorating is just about my favorite thing!.

My parents came over yesterday to help move the bedroom furniture.  My parents are so cute, they are so excited about these babies!

I guess my only B&M is I'm terrified to tell my students about the babies.  It's my first year at this school, and I fell like I'm just getting settled and they're starting to trust me, now I have to tell them I'm leaving in the Spring Sad I need to suck it up and do it soon though.  I'm starting to show.

Agree. We refresh our gameplans with Jack every year. Fire, robbery, attempted abduction... everything has a game plan.

I would never blame her family for what happened to her, because it was obviously not her fault. But in reading the book, I did get the feeling that if she KNEW she was wanted and missed and loved at home, she may have fought harder to get out. It just broke my heart that she thought her step-dad would probably be glad she was gone. I think the best thing we can do to make fighters of our children is convince them that they are worth the fight.

I feel the same way--I hate to say anything that sounds the least bit judgmental towards her or her mother, who obviously has suffered and loves Jaycee so much.  But I understand what you are saying--she had NO fight and seemed to immediately turn to her captor as if there was no other choice.  All the times she thought "Who would want me?" was just heartbreaking.

It's nice to be able to talk to someone about the book. I can't talk to Mack about it. His cousin was abducted/raped/killed in 2006, so it hits really close to home. She would have been 24 yesterday, and he cried off and on all day. They were pretty tight. I only met her a few times, but still... you don't ever expect that to happen within the family.

How sad! I know this was my parent's biggest fear. We lived 3 blocks from our school and after the little girl in Fort Worth got kidnapped from her backyard and killed we were on lock down. We weren't allowed to walk to and from school anymore and barely allowed outside.

  • Did anyone watch Desperate housewives last night.  I thought it totally blew.  The major plot is so totally unrealistic.  I will keep watching though b/c I have watched from the beginning and I know this is the last season.

On the flip side, I watched Pan Am and will definitely tune in again.  This show has some possibilities.

I don't really have much today.  DH isn't coming home this Sunday like scheduled, so I am flying to PA next weekend to check it out.  I hope I like it because my mind is about 85% made up to move there.

We are tuning in just because it is the last season.  We missed the last few episodes last year and I guess my expectations were not really high to begin with.
