    imagekayleeb:

    1. Hobbies? Reading, eating, cooking, baking, watching bad TV, travel

    2. Favorite thing about your job? I LOVE what I do. I get paid to do things I would do for free (reading about topics I'm passionate about, researching things that interest me, and sharing those experiences with some really smart people.) I have awesome coworkers and fabulous students. Every time I get depressed about the state of something in the world, I just have to recall all of the incredible things my students are doing to change the world for the better in their own little ways.

    3. Dream job? Exactly what I'm doing now except about 7-8 hours closer to where our families live. It's hard to be away from them since we're so close. I love being a professor. I would like to move into administration some day, but it's just a variation on what I already do.

    4. How many kids do you want? Either 0 or 1. We're both SO undecided on this topic. We don't feel like we should have a child if we don't really want one but also think we'd be good parents and would raise a child who would make a positive contribution to the world. Still, my family has a history of really early menopause, so biology may (or may have already) decided for us. Either way, we'll be happy.

    5. What was the highlight of your weekend? Ok, I know this is pathetic, but the inlaws were in town and are early (for us) risers, so the nap I took yesterday after they left from 10am-3pm was DELICIOUS! The butternut squash soup in the post below was a close runner-up :)

Where did you go to college? Poof!

Food you hate? You know, nothing comes to mind. There are things I wouldn't order again, for example, and plenty of things I'm "meh" about, but nothing I truly hate. My least favorite type of food is sweets. I'm a savory gal, so I'll bake cookies because baking is fun and eat like 1 then send the rest to work with DH.

Favorite day of the week and why? I realize this is ridiculous reasoning, but it's Thursday. I work from home on Fridays, so Thursdays always feel like the start of the weekend to me. When I was in college, Thursday was the start of the "party" weekend, and to be able to stay up as late as I want on Thursday night and not having to wake up on Fridays until I'm damn good and ready still gives me that same "undergrad playing hookie" feel.
  • What's your favorite class to teach and why?

Is Oklahoma a permanent home for you?

Where is your favorite place to travel?

If you had to pick only one cause to champion for the rest of your life and could really make a difference, what would it be?

  • Favorite OKC restaurant?

    Describe your go-to outfit.

    Favorite book?

What's the best thing about your H?

If you have kids, what are some top names?

    Poof!

Where is your favorite place to travel? We LOVED our Munich trip a few months ago. We're trying to find a way to arrange to go back next fall when I go to Poland for work.

If you had to pick only one cause to champion for the rest of your life and could really make a difference, what would it be? Gay rights. DOMA, DADT, etc. are our generation's Jim Crow laws and we're going to be SO embarrased by them one day.

  • imageMcGillicuddy13:

Favorite OKC restaurant? It's hard to choose. I'm a fan of Signature Grill, Thai Delight, and The Wedge among others. I've yet to have a bad meal at any of the above. That said, I've also really yet to be spectacularly wowed by any one place we've been to yet.

Describe your go-to outfit. I like clothes that are tailored but not tight, so for me, it's a pair of tailored pants from Banana Republic, a solid colored shirt with something cool about the cut, and a pair of fun print or funky colored heels from Nine West. I actually just bought 3 wrap dresses I love, too, so as soon as it gets a little cooler it'll be the wrap dress and aforementioned heels. Shoes still fit perfectly even if you gain or lose 5 pounds :)

Favorite book? Tie: The Harry Potter series (for the storyline) or Pat Conroy's The Prince of Tides (because it was the first book I ever read where the prose sounded like poetry to me. It also made me want to work with families.)

What's the best thing about your H? His sense of humor. He's very sweet, but he has this really sarcastic sense of humor. He's quiet, so he'll say something hilareous under his breath and unless you know to listen for it you don't always catch it.

If you have kids, what are some top names? I like boring British monarchy names, apparently, because my favorites have always been Elizabeth, Katherine, William, and James. I just now realized the royalty connection. Technically, I don't love "Richard" but it's both of our fathers' first names, two of our grandfathers' middle names, and J's middle name, so we'd shove it in there as a middle name.

  • How did you and your H meet?

What's your favorite movie of all time?

If a movie was made about your life, what actress would you want to play you?

    Poof!

What's your favorite movie of all time? Father of the Bride

If a movie was made about your life, what actress would you want to play you? Natalie Portman. I think she seems really smart and fun at the same time.

Nine West shoes are THE BEST. My feet must be weird, b/c I rarely find any heels that don't result in excruciating pain. However, last weekend I purchased my second pair of Nine West open toe slingbacks, and they're great! Love that they don't hurt my feet, and love the simple design. I think I'm a lifelong fan. :)

Oh, and I need to check out Prince of Tides! Never read that one. How are you doing on the Krakauer book so far? I think it's fascinating!

I read the Krakauer book a couple of years ago, so I'm just skimming to refresh because it really stuck with me. A Mormon friend recommended it originally, and I'm really glad I read it. I had read his "Into Thin Air" but I liked "Under the Banner of Heaven" much more.

  • What is your PhD in?

How long have you lived in OK?

How long have you lived in OK? 2 years and a few months

Thanksgiving or Christmas? Thanksgiving. DH and I spend it alone and since my family has a lot of "obligations" that govern holidays, it's glorious!

Things you know now that you wished you knew when you were 18? Great question! I really haven't changed that much over the last 14 years. I think I'm better at saying "no" now than I was back then. I've become more of a worrier, though, so I wish I could recapture some of that carefree attitude.

    1. Favorite beverage, alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Alcohol = Strongbow Cider; Nonalcoholic = Diet Coke

    2. Very first impression of Oklahoma. I actually "met" Nesties first and thought you all were really nice.

    3. What's your birth order placement? Your DH? Do you match the stereotypes? We're both first borns. I'm SO the stereotype. DH is so easy going and quiet that you'd think he was like the 4th of 6 kids or something.

    4. You have to change your first name. What new name do you choose? Hmm..Elizabeth, I think, just because the nicknames would give me lots of options.

    5. Celebrity crush? Tina Fey, Jason Bateman, Paul Rudd, Natalie Portman, and Matthew McConaughey (but only if he just smiles and looks pretty.)

Tell me an interesting story from your job. I once had a student blame her blatant plagiarism on Jesus. She had to do this really dumb assignment (I didn't design it---I was a TA) that was only worth like 5 out of the 1000 points in the class. They had to mention a group they were a member of and then give us 5 terms unique to the group and explain what they meant within the group (like baseball team members might use the term "eh'batter'batter!") You would be able to BS it in like 10 minutes. She copied and pasted from a pro-life website and just handed in the mission statement. She didn't even do the assignment. When confronted, she said, "Of course it's the same as on the website. Jesus is pro-life, so he put the same words into my keyboard as in the website creator's website. He wrote it, not us." Then, when I didn't buy that she tried to get really political and say I was just failing her because she had different political beliefs than I do (note: she had NO idea what I believed.) Thankfully, the professor of the class was very religious, got personally offended, and reamed the student a new one for lying as both her professor and as a Christian. I'd never do that, but with this student, I swear it was the only thing that would have worked.

What's the one thing that makes you angry immediately? When someone is being crappy to my family/friends/students. I can handle people talking a lot of crap at/to me, but I go all Mama Bear if you do it about someone else I care about.

How do you feel about your in-laws? I'm lucky. They're really quiet and don't quite "get" me, but they're also really nice and NEVER try to interfere in our marriage. For example, we've been married for 8 years now and I said something about my friends' kids to MIL this weekend. She responded with, "If you guys ever decided to have kids, I bet you'd be a great mom and do X like your friend, too. BUT I also think you two would do some really awesome things if you don't have kids, too." It's the first time she's ever mentioned kids in front of me, and she was SO neutral. The thing is, I think she's genuine about it.

Do you see any more fur babies in your future to co-exist with Chompers? I would LOVE a little girl Bichon named Molly, but DH is currently opposed. I'm secretly afraid I wouldn't be able to divide up my love between the two. I know people say you love them the same, but I can't imagine loving anything else as much as that little dog.

What is your favorite thing to do with your day off besides sleep? My perfect day off would be very non-cerebral: lunch with a friend at a cool place, read a fun book, and catch up on my trashy reality shows, then a nice dinner date with DH. In fact, that pretty much describes my weekends. My work is never, ever done, but I try very hard to take weekends off entirely. It makes me a lot more productive when I'm refreshed and excited to get back to my work on Monday.

  • What are your favorite wines?

    Favorite story about your dog?

    imageimage
  • imageSunnyDaze31:

What are your favorite wines? My favorite summer wines are vinho verdes. My favorite fall/winter wines tend to be Cotes du Rhones.

Favorite story about your dog? He switches up the cuteness, but recently he's been doing two things only a mother could love (but which I, of course, find adorable.) If we're both home and one of us lets him out in the morning while the other sleeps in, he'll go out, then come back in, jump up in bed, and give he snoozing one a little kiss on the mouth (not big slobbery licks---more like kind of touching noses.) He also has started coming to me after dinner about every other night and being really weird and whiney. If I pat his belly, he'll burp, then run off and play happily. So, yes, I burp my dog.
