Monday randoms

I am slowly turning into a morning person.  This morning, Henry and I got all of our errands done before 10.  This is very alien to me.

    Nice!

The wind has helped me procrastinate my morning run. I'm usually done and showered and working around the house by now. But...nope. Not so much today.

  • I love it when I can get everything done that early. Today was not that day.

I tok a few extra minutes yesterday to take a look at the artPrize entries at the Y. They have about 5 or 6 and all are outside. Big Dog, Big flowers, Big shoe made of shoes.

Oh, and now it's raining. Again.

I need to suck it up.

  • I really need to start using my Y membership for something other than convenient parking for events such as ArrPrize.
  • Holy smokes, it is downpouring at work right now.

GRSP - good for you for getting everything done so early. My girls have totally turned us into morning people. I hate not leaving first thing in the morning when we have stuff to do. I get antsy if it is 10 am and we haven't left yet.

  • Hi.

I would like to report that I injured myself doing laundry yesterday.  Because I'm awesome like that.  I managed to shut my finger in the door of the washing machine.  It hurt.  At first I thought I may have broken it - it hurt so bad.  Not broken.  Just banged up.

Being a housewife is hard.  Tongue Tied

  • Sorry about your finger, Kasa.  Ouch!

Ouch! Want a Mickey Mouse band-aid?

  • GRSP - Enjoy the rest of your day!

Kasa - Hope the finger heals soon.

My goof of the weekend, and my life, was to return bottles and then forget to use the bottle slips when I checked out.  I'm about 50/50 on actually remembering to use them when I return bottles.

Me too.  If I put them in my pocket, I will 100% of the time forget to use them.

  • Ouch, Kasa.  Are you mangled?

We had a showing yesterday and the people were at our house for nearly the whole hour.  They came early, so we waved at them while backing out of the driveway.  And then 30 minutes in, we parked down the street and did a stakeout.  A friend was dropping off her daughter for a little bit, and I wanted to get in asap.

Now I'm annoyed that my realtor hasn't called with their offer yet. Because of course they're going to make an offer, and it will be more than the asking price.  Hee hee.

  • My brother has a new lady friend.  They've been on five dates, so she's legit enough for him to tell my mom (who then immediately tells me).

She earned her masters degree at Harvard.  Indifferent

  • Yay for getting errands done early.

Boo for getting hurt by your washing machine, Kasa.

Good luck with the offer, GRSP.

  • GRSP, my finger is rather miscolored.  Not quite as mangled/impressive looking as I was expecting though.

My (bruised) fingers are crossed for you on the house.  I hope your realtor calls any minute now!

  • I am so fracking over these Monday a.m. drives into the east side.  It makes me hate Detroit, the suburbs and anyone who uses the roads here.  It also makes my blood pressure go crazy.

Why can't these people fracking learn to drive in the rain (or at all, really)?!

I came through at 9a.m., which should be past rush hour and traffic was stop and go for MILES!  I got off the freeway and found a good alternate route, but my drive took an extra 30ish minutes.

I am really annoyed because this means in the winter I will probably have to spend Sunday nights here since my Monday class will start at 9a.m. and getting there in time would require driving in right at the peak of rush hour.  Since keeping traffic moving at a non-turtle rate of speed is obviously impossible without snow and ice, I can't even imagine how miserable it will be come January.  I have also had the fantastic luck of having rain on 2 out of the 3 Mondays I've driven back so far.  This means either A) God hates me and this is going to be the snowiest winter in history or B) I'm paying my dues now and we'll have a very dry winter.  I fear that it is probably A.

    Interesting.  I hope she's cool.

People go to Ivy League schools.  They're still people just the like the rest of us.  No need to put them on a pedestal or worry what they think of you.

I suppose.  People I know don't go to Ivy League schools though.

That sounds so frustrating!  I have no advice for driving in that area.  Sorry to hear that aspect isn't going well for you though.

Based on conversations with my housemates and classmates, I don't think there is any advice, other than trying different roads or different times of day and different days of the week; any of which is only marginally helpful for various reasons.

The big frustration is that I really don't want to have to come back on Sunday nights.  This semester should be okay, because even though the drive was annoying, there were no problems getting to class on time.  Leaving earlier probably wouldn't help much because it puts me in the thick of rush hour (for some perspective on that:  Last week I left home at 5:17a.m. and arrived on campus just after 9a.m.  This week I left home at 6:50 a.m. and arrived on campus at 10:15 a.m.).  I'm just really fighting this future Sunday night stay-over piece.

Also, if I'm going to have to stay a fifth night, I'm more inclined to try to get an apartment by campus for next semester.  This introduces a lot of work for me--trying to find a place that I can live with, feel safe in (and get between it and campus safely) and convince L that it's close enough to the cost of staying with friends to be in budget.

Ugh, sorry, I'm just venting here.  No one close to me IRL wants to hear any of this right now, so I'm just pouring it out to you ladies.

That stinks.  And like your classmates said, I don't think it can be avoided.  From what I remember of Andy's time commuting, traffic would start to back up after Brighton and then it was a crawl the rest of the way.  Even when he lived in Belleville and commuted to downtown Detroit he had an hour and a half commute each way.  It just plain stinks and I think the only thing you can do is not travel in the morning towards Detroit or in the evenings towards Lansing during the week.

I guess you'll just have to make the best of it - maybe books on tape (law books so you can multitask?), podcasts, etc.  I think once you kind of get used to it and surrender to it, it won't be so nervewracking.
